Reporting directly to the Executive Director People and Culture, you will lead a multidisciplinary team in providing strategic direction and influence for all aspects of Work Health, Safety and Wellbeing across the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service (CHHHS) and facilitate collaborative links with internal and external partners and legislative agencies to keep our people safe and well at work. You will ensure that the CHHHS meets its statutory obligations by making Duty Holders aware of their obligations relating to the safety of all stakeholders in providing service to the community, and escalating matters of risk.

About you:
In your new role you will provide strategic advice to the Board, Senior Executives, Directors, Managers and Supervisors to ensure that they are fully informed and action their responsibilities in relation to applicable legislation, and policies, duties, and obligations relating to Work Health, Safety and Wellbeing. You will also ensure the appropriate CHHHS Work Health, and Safety Management System, governance arrangements and communications processes are in place to inform the Board, Senior Executives, the Executive, Managers and staff of obligations and responsibilities under applicable legislation, regulation, and all relevant codes of practice.
About your role:
- Define national standards, policies, procedures and guidelines on hazard and risk management, particularly complex, high risk issues that cannot be resolved at an operational level, to ensure CHHHS risk exposure is minimised.
- Implement frameworks, initiatives and processes across the CHHHS that underpin the effective management of incidents or injuries in the workplace and the rehabilitation of injured workers consistent with applicable policy and guidelines.
- Monitor and evaluate the performance of CHHHS Policy, systems and practices to provide detailed and reliable analysis to support strategic decision-making processes and to identify opportunities for policy review or new work health, safety and wellbeing initiatives.
- Act as a key influencer within CHHHS to positively represent the CHHHS with external stakeholders including the regulator and Queensland Health.
Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) evidence as required for your employment in accordance with legislation/government policy and Directives.
