AECOM is seeking a Director level Tailings engineer to lead our tailings and mine waste management team, based out of our Brisbane, Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast offices.
We aspire to positively influence how tailings, mine water, and mine wastes can be managed via ESG to enable a decarbonised society and shape the mines of the future.
Our Centre of Excellence for Tailings and Mine Waste Management comprises professional staff and experts including geotechnical, civil, mechanical and water resource engineers, hydrogeologists and geochemists, with diverse backgrounds and experience from across the world. Our strength derives from our local and international experience combined with the ability to draw on the expertise and capabilities of staff anywhere within Australia as well as our international network.
In this role, you will work closely with our Brisbane-based mine water, tailings, and geotechnical leaders. You will be part of a globally respected and ambitious company with excellent career prospects and international opportunities whilst providing technical support to a wide range of tailings and mine water projects throughout Australia.
As a global company, we work closely with our mine water colleagues across the world, including the USA, Canada, and South Africa. Such exposure and opportunities for experience outside of Australia are available and encouraged as our global pipeline is extremely strong. We're looking for people who have the passion and drive to be involved with major mine water projects across a range of geographies and technical opportunities who are keen to influence change.

Job Description
What will a day in this role look like:
- Develop pursuit strategies, technical concepts, and propose technical approaches.
- Build strategic plans and relationships with public and private clients and industry leaders.
- Establish and maintain client relationships.
- Attend industry events, serve on panels and foster the AECOM mine water and tailings engineering practice.
- Help grow the Mine Water and Tailings engineering practice in Australia and New Zealand.

Qualifications
What are we looking for from you?
- A minimum of 20 years of specialisation and demonstrated experience in tailings engineering in a consulting role, with tertiary qualifications in Geotechnical / Civil Engineering.
- Extensive experience leading and overseeing projects from concept to final design.
- In-depth understanding of local and global tailings standards and guidelines, e.g. ANCOLD, ICOLD, GISTM and CDA.
- Ability to conduct dam safety inspections, dam safety reviews and risk assessments for tailings facilities and embankment dams.
- A previous or current appointment as an Engineer of Record would be highly regarded
