This is a fantastic opportunity for a senior Workplace Health, Safety & Environment (WHSE) professional to join our growing renewable energy platform.
Macquarie's Green Investment Group (GIG) is establishing a new renewable energy platform to support the development and growth of its existing 1.5GW onshore wind, solar and storage portfolio in ANZ. The business will develop, construct, own and operate a portfolio of renewable energy assets with a mission to accelerate the green transition.
GIG is currently looking for a WHSE Director to support this new renewable energy platform. Initially you will join GIG, before transitioning to the platform next year. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will lead the WHSE function, with expected responsibilities to include:
- Development and implementation of the WHSE Management System to ensure compliance with the Owner Requirements, WHSE legislation and industry best practice
- Develop and implement a robust assurance program that ensures inspection and audit takes place across an asset lifecycle
- Develop and deliver training and other initiatives to implement WHSE management system requirements and initiatives to build WHSE culture in the organisation.
- Provide WHSE support to teams to ensure that WHSE risks are identified, properly assessed and managed throughout the lifecycle of projects, including initial site assessments, design WHSE reviews, contractor assessments, construction and O&M support
- Support teams during tenders and contractual discussions associated with WHSE
- Oversee contractor WHSE performance via prequalification, contractor assessments, reviewing site specific WHSE plans, inspections, and audits. Foster ongoing contractor engagement
- Work to promote a culture that values worker dignity, health and safety
- Develop and implement a framework that enables the platform to manage effectively sustainability, environmental, social and governance risks and opportunities.
To excel in this role, you will have deep functional expertise and strong stakeholder management skills, including:
- A minimum of 10 years of relevant HSE experience and relevant qualifications in either an internal or external capacity, in infrastructure / renewables / power industries and preferably in the waste to energy sector
- Strong knowledge of and experience of implementation and working with teams during development, construction and operational phases of projects
- Experience in contractor management as well as experience in managing development activities and O&M operations
- Hold appropriate tertiary qualifications in WHSE specialisation, audit or qualification and/or a detailed understanding of ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001
- Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to engage with both internal and external stakeholders
- Strong communication skills - verbal, written, presentation to management and Board-level stakeholders, as well as workers on site
- Specific experience and/or qualifications relating to supply chain governance, human rights/modern slavery risk management, waste management and environmental management are desirable.
