About the role: 

As a Disability Support Worker, you will be responsible for supporting participants with physical and/or intellectual disabilities. You will be responsible for providing support to participants with a range of low care needs to high care needs that require a resilient and adaptive approach to ever evolving care routines.

You will be able to assist our participants with activities relating to daily living including personal care, meal preparation, budgeting and any other household tasks they require.

You will be able to provide companionship and emotional support to those participants who need it and do so whilst maintaining professional boundaries

As a member of a multidisciplinary team, your role will involve providing trauma-informed care to children and young people with high care needs. Your primary objective will be to create a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment that helps each child and young person develop daily life skills, achieve educational goals, participate in extracurricular activities, and maintain connections with their family and community. We are looking for individuals with a strong background in community service to join our team.

Our services operate on a 24/7 roster model, which means that successful candidates will be required to work a range of shifts, including weekends, active nights, and public holidays.

About you: 

You possess the ability to learn quickly and have strong interpersonal skills, which enable you to build solid relationships with others. You create a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment that fosters growth and development. Whether it involves assisting with daily living skills or providing emotional support, you are always willing to lend a helping hand. Most importantly, you serve as a positive role model by demonstrating characteristics that make children and young people feel safe and facilitate learning. You work well, both independently and as part of a team.

Skills required:

  • You have previous experience working with children and young people.
  • You can build rapport with children and young people while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • You possess the ability to manage difficult situations and behaviour with the ability to de-escalate them in a therapeutic manner.
  • You are committed to providing client-focused services that result in positive outcomes.
  • You are respectful, empathetic and demonstrate compassion towards others.
  • You possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • You are proficient in using technology and systems to meet compliance requirements.
  • You are a team player.

Responsibilities:

  • Balancing care and control by setting boundaries to maintain a safe environment.
  • Empowering young people to make positive life choices.
  • Teaching basic life skills and guiding them through education and programs.
  • Encouraging positive family relationships and community engagement.
  • Conducting, security checks, and incident reporting.

To apply for this role, you will need the following:

  • Diploma in Community, Youth Work or Disability Services or relevant industry experience, with a minimum of two years experience in a similar role
  • Australian Drivers Licence with no restrictions
  • Comprehensive Car Insurance
  • Working with Vulnerable Persons Check
  • National Police Check conducted within 12 months
  • International Police Check (if applicable)
  • Current First Aid & CPR Certificate
  • COVID-19 Vaccination Record

Desired:

  • Medication Administration Training Certificate
  • Cultural Awareness Training Certificate
  • Youth Mental Health First Aid Certificate
  • Crisis De-escalation Training Certificate
  • Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training Certificate 
  • Experience in Youth justice or corrections
