Eligibility
These are Aboriginal Identified roles where Aboriginal identity, cultural knowledge or connections are a genuine aspect of the roles. Positions are specifically noted under the provisions of the NSW Anti-discrimination Act (1977).
About the roles
NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is seeking two Discovery Guides to join the team. Our Discovery Guides help deliver tourist focused engagement with visitors at Mutawintji under direction of the Mutawintji Board of Management. They deliver programmed activities, primarily guided tours for all age groups of specific cultural sites promoting community awareness, understanding and enjoyment of cultural and/or natural heritage, and provide interesting and relevant insights and interpretation of the area, to enhance visitor experience. These educational roles will also focus on conducting excursions for primary and secondary school groups and leisure groups as well as being involved in school holiday leisure programs.
About you
Your strong communication skills are paramount to the success of these roles. You will be delivering programs to differing stakeholders and will need to be able to think on your feet to respond to various questions and situations. Self-management is important for these roles as there may be times you will be working alone and will need to ensure safety is a priority meeting the required Work Health Safety standards. Your experience in teaching and education will be highly valued including your demonstrated passion for geography, geology, science and history, the Australian environment and awareness of NPWS values.
Essential requirements
- This is an Identified role under Section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 and as such Aboriginality is an essential requirement of the role.
- Aboriginal identified positions are developed where Aboriginal identity, cultural knowledge or connections are a genuine aspect of the role. Positions are specifically noted under the provisions of the NSW Anti-discrimination Act (1977) for Aboriginal people who meet the following criteria:
- is of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, and
- identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, and
- is accepted as a such by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.
- Sensitivity to and understanding of Aboriginal Culture and an excellent understanding of Aboriginal community governance and structures.
- Current Working with Children check
- Senior First Aid certificate
