As the governing body of basketball in Australia, we are a not-for-profit business who work collaboratively to grow the sport with our basketball Members, the eight State & Territory Basketball associations.

At BA we proudly manage our elite national teams (Boomers & Opals, Rollers & Gliders plus men’s and women’s 3x3), our Centre of Excellence facility, elite competitions including, the Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL), major international FIBA events, national junior championships and as well as Australian basketball’s official junior game development program, Aussie Hoops.

What is the role?

BA is proud to be engaging a collaborative and passionate Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Participation Manager to join our team.

The Manager will support the ongoing growth, access and meaningful inclusion in basketball for all those who wish to participate as players, coaches, clubs, volunteers, and officials in the community. This role is made possible through the grant funding provided by the “FIBA Women's World Cup 2022 Legacy Program”.

In this exciting, hands on role, the DEI Participation Manager will work in collaboration with our Game Development team, key strategic leaders, Head of Women in Basketball our Indigenous lead, and our State & Territory partners, to support the development and implementation of inclusive basketball programs and initiatives for communities that encourage and enhance participation for everyone.

Key responsibilities:

  • Development and implementation of basketball diversity, equity and inclusion plans, initiatives and activities that enable and enhance the participation in basketball (as players, coaches, officials and volunteers) of all who wish to participate.
  • Work closely with Diversity and Inclusion leads in States & Territories to understand and support state or territory-based initiatives as appropriate.
  • Manage the delivery of cultural awareness training and initiatives to State & Territory workforces as well as to community organisations, coaches, officials and their wider membership.
  • Manage the delivery of cultural awareness at large BA events eg: National Championships
  • With key leads, identify and apply for grants that enable the delivery of Diversity and Inclusion initiatives to the community to support, enhance and sustain long term program delivery.
  • Coordinate data collection and reporting of participation of diverse groups, and utilise data to understand and map relevant trends in participation from diverse communities

This is part time role, up to 30 hours per week (can be worked flexibly by agreement). The role can be undertaken in either our Melbourne (State Basketball Centre, Wantirna South) or Canberra (AIS, Bruce) office.

The role is fixed term for 12 months in line with dedicated funding.

Who are You?

Experience, Skills & Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification relevant to the role
  • Demonstrated success in a similar role, in sport (preferably in a multi-cultural context), developing and enacting Diversity & Inclusion policies, processes, reporting and plans in a complex stakeholder environment.
  • Experience in developing education and learning material.
  • An understanding of the role basketball and sport can play in developing a sense of belonging and inclusivity in the community.
  • Experience in working across different stakeholders to ensure delivery of Diversity and Inclusion initiatives
  • Experience in reviewing and using data to inform Diversity & Inclusion action plans.
  • Project management experience preferred.
  • Experience working with multicultural communities preferred.
