About the role
Employees classified at this level provide clinical nursing/midwifery expertise including the facilitation and coordination of the organ and tissue donation process and the retrieval process as part of a statewide hospital donation service managed through DonateLife SA.
The Donation Specialist Nursing Coordinator (DSNC) is responsible, in conjunction with the hospital team, for the implementation, documentation and reporting of the National Clinical Practice Improvement Program (CPIP) within SA hospitals including the End-of-Life Follow Up Service. This includes raising awareness of routine end of life notification calls from critical care areas to DonateLife SA, and screening the notification calls for possible organ and tissue donation. DSNCs will provide support and educational services on organ and tissue donation to all medical, nursing, and allied health staff who interface with the donation process based on clinical standards and best practice principles, within a collaborative and multi-disciplinary framework within the health service/facility as well as the community as required.
The DSNC also works with hospital teams as a clinical expert to identify potential organ donors, supporting best practice, including establishing and supporting the donation wishes of individuals by accessing and checking the Australian Organ Donor Register (AODR) so families and individuals are able to make an informed and enduring decision about organ donation. Employees classified at this level are experts within their area and stream of practice and must be able to perform with a significant degree of autonomy and decision making within their scope of practice.
The position works to the strategic and operational plans of DonateLife SA and it is understood that these may change according to national and state requirements.
