An opportunity exists for an EL1 Assistant National Manager (ANM) in Dispute Resolution (DR). The position has broad management responsibilities, under direction, for the day to day operation of DR.

About the role
The AGS Dispute Resolution practice (DR) is Australia’s pre-eminent public law litigation practice. It has unrivalled experience and specialist expertise in providing dispute related legal advice and representation in every jurisdiction in Australia, across a diverse range of legal matters for Commonwealth agencies, including a very significant practice representing the Commonwealth’s regulatory enforcement agencies, administrative law, tax litigation, employment law, torts law and information access law. AGS acts for the Commonwealth in the full range of disputes to which it is a party or in which it has an interest (including access to sensitive information) and advises on investigations including for law enforcement and national security agencies. DR also represents the Commonwealth before inquests, inquiries and royal commissions, and as the solicitor assisting royal commissions. In addition, DR has a specialist in-house counsel practice, led by Tim Begbie KC.
In this role you will:
- support the DR management team, the DR National Manager (NM) and the DR EL2 Assistant National Managers (ANMs)
- assist the NM and ANMs to develop and implement strategies and plans to support the effective operation of the DR practice group
- work closely with senior leaders across a range of practice management issues (including file allocations and resourcing, service of proceedings on the Commonwealth, coordination of internal and external training, and other special projects) and human resources issues (including recruitment, performance and development opportunities)
- work to maintain DR’s frameworks, business plans, governance and compliance requirements
- support a range of DR’s business activities and reporting requirements.

About you
This role will suit candidates that have:
- recent legal experience as a senior practitioner preferably within the Commonwealth
- the ability to exercise high levels of discretion, integrity and diplomacy
- the ability to initiate, build and maintain strong internal and external client relationships
- the ability to work under pressure, excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to persuade
- excellent written and oral communication skills
- demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and to operate effectively in a hybrid environment.
