About Us:

Network Steel has recently celebrated its 30th anniversary and now employs a team of 100+ dedicated staff working across 2 factories to keep lead times to a minimum. We are proudly renowned as Queensland’s most recognizable supplier of Structural Steel products to this regions most prominent builders of residential detached housing and multi-density unit/townhouse developments. With daily freight deliveries throughout Brisbane, Ipswich, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast & Northern Rivers we have the whole South East Corner covered and work with all top 10 builders such as Metricon, Clarendon Homes & Plantation Homes to name just a few.

Your new role: 

Due to ongoing growth and expansion, we are seeking an experienced Drafting Manager to join our team in this newly created role. This position is base at our Morningside office and has an exciting opportunity to build strong teams and interact with Network Steel customers both internally and externally. 

As the Drafting Manager you are responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the detailing team. The role will be focused on all things quality and on time performance. As a part of the Network Steel team, you are expected to role model the values and expected behaviours to ensure a high performing and engaged culture. This role will sit within the Sales & Marketing team and contribute to the business efficiency and continuity.

Roles and Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

• Manages the day-to-day operations, including the hiring, and relevant performance management of the Detailing department
• Is responsible for all things quality, and on time performance, for jobs that enter and exit the detailing team
• Drives the team towards exceeding business related KPIs in relation to quality, customer service, errors and relevant cost centres
• Delivers the fairest commercial result for the business wherever possible, whilst respecting and nurturing key customer relationships, through the relevant ETS and Warranty Review processes
• Point of contact for escalations, back charges, and major issues regarding detailing, warranty, lead times and pricing.
• Manages and maintains key customer card file information, which is clearly articulated to all levels within the detailing department
• Manages a local and offshore workforce, with a mindset of continuous improvement and ‘smarter ways of working’
• Maintains and develops a retention focused approach to the recruitment, training and ongoing professional development within the detailing department
• Comply with all Network Steel policies and expected behaviours 
• Report any safety hazards, near misses and assist in any investigation follow ups. 
• Supervise daily activities to ensure that work is performed safely, efficiently and in accordance with procedures
• Lead by example for staff in manner, attitude and customer service to ensure the operations are process driven
• You will have a knowledge of AutoCAD, Tekla excel, various frame & truss programs and other Microsoft packages to collate drafting plans to support customer output. Your administrative and coordination skills will be crucial to own the success of our business, 

To be successful in this role you will possess the following: 

Essential: 

• 5+ years’ experience within the domestic housing market
• Strong communication skills with a variety of stakeholders
• Proficiency with plan reading
• Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team
• Proficiency using AutoCAD, Tekla, Excel, various frame & truss programs and Microsoft packages
• Intermediate Microsoft applications; Outlook, Excel, Word
• Work professionally in a fast-paced environment
• Strong customer service skills 
• Proven ability working within a team environment

Desirable:

• Experience in a similar role would be advantageous.
• Management experience - preferred but not necessary 
• Experience with 3D modelling rollout across a business is highly desirable
• Certification in drafting/ACP
