Due to ongoing growth and work awarded NEPEAN Conveyors is currently seeking an experienced Drafting Manager to join the team and assist us in the delivery of quality projects. The Drafting Manager is responsible for managing and leading the design team. The multi-faceted role will oversee, manage, and mentor a team of junior and intermediate and senior draftsman who will support the NEPEAN business to complete the creation of 3D Inventor Models, NX 3D and 2D AutoCAD drawings to project requirements. The position will also provide undertake team management duties including hiring, training, and reporting on team performance.
This role is Mackay based only. Relocation can be considered for the right person.
3D Modelling and Drafting
▪ Creation of 3D models in inventor to satisfy project requirements.
▪ Create, print, edit and revise NCQ and reference drawings using AutoCAD and Inventor.
▪ Collate drawing packages.
▪ Ensure compliance with relevant client, NCQ and Australian standards.
▪ Approve drawings and back-drafting as required.
▪ Detail 3D Inventor models into 2D Inventor fabrication drawings.
▪ Control and update the Product Lifecycle Management System (PLM).
Team Management
▪ Assist the design team with daily troubleshooting and operational related queries.
▪ Provide high level of technical expertise to team on complex or difficult tasks.
▪ Assist in identifying employee skill sets.
▪ Track each team member’s workload and availability, and allocate appropriate tasks that utilize
their skillset.
▪ Regularly coach and mentor team members to help further excel within their current skillsets.
▪ Review team’s work for accuracy and adherence to the required standards.
▪ Provide regular feedback and encouragement to team members, including communicating team
goals and identifying areas for training and development.
▪ Assists management with forecasting staffing needs and make proactive hiring/training decisions
when required.
▪ Communicate work related deadlines and sales goals to team members.
▪ Develop strategies to promote team member adherence to company regulations and performance goals.
▪ Conduct regular team meetings to update members on best practices and continuing expectations.
▪ Coordinate and allocate engineering tasks and milestones.
▪ Produce and/or check and approve drawings, processes, and technical documentation.
▪ Provide technical support and advice to other areas of the business and junior employees.
▪ Complete the migration of NX to Inventor and associated PLM.
General
▪ Understand the operation of industry equipment, especially conveyor components and conveyor systems.
▪ Understand NCQ goals and core values.
▪ Compliance with all company systems and policies.
▪ Accept workload and willingly help others when required.
▪ Other duties as required.
Skill sets:
- Experience as drafting lead or manager
- Experience in the Autodesk AutoCAD
- Experience with Autodesk Inventor an advantage
- Experience with SolidWorks or other modelling software will be considered
- Experience in Mechanical and Structural Design is preferred
- Experience / Trade qualification in Boilermaking and/or Fitting is an advantage
- Experience leading/mentoring a mid size team
- 10+ years’ experience in Mechanical Design/Drafting preferred
- Minimum of 2 years in a checking role preferred
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Engineering Design Drafting
- Proficiency in the design layout and detailing of materials handling and process plants
- Understanding of fabrication and construction techniques in the materials handling industry
- Highly developed people and relationship skills with demonstrated ability to work in a multi-disciplined professional team environment communicating and motivating effectively at all levels of the organisation
