Overview
We invite you to join our supportive and dynamic multidisciplinary team within the Environmental Health Centre (EHC), Family Health & Development Team here at Yorke and Northern Local Health Network, Port Pirie.
Our clinicians are leaders in understanding the issues around environmental lead and supporting the management of exposure risks to minimise blood lead levels within our target group.
The core focus of the EHC is to provide assistance to families of young children (aged 0-5 years) in understanding the issues around environmental lead and managing family member's blood lead levels to improve health outcomes for pregnant women and children. We are a free public health service that is responsive to the health needs of the Port Pirie community.
We are seeking a EHC Aboriginal Family Support Worker to support and embed a strong, more sustainable approach to supporting Aboriginal clients in a primary health setting and delivering cultural safe care.
The Family Support Worker:
Will work to support and embed a stronger, more sustainable approach to support Aboriginal clients in a primary health setting and delivering culturally safe care. Working as part of a primary health care team to contribute to population health strategies.
Acts as a 'cultural broker' between clients and services to provide support and advocacy and ensure services are provided that are sensitive and considerate of Aboriginal culture.
Is responsible for the assisting in the delivery of the Blood Lead monitoring program, providing blood lead testing and monitoring of children, pregnant women and persons who may be 'at risk' of an elevated blood lead level.
Has a specific focus on engagement and assisting to improve health outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families living in Port Pirie.
Contributes to the improved health status of the community by coordinating and facilitating activities designed to encourage maximum community participation in the Environmental Health Centre's program and services.
Is responsible for applying knowledge and professional competence to contribute to comprehensive and integrated range of services which assists the Environmental Health Centre in meeting its objective of reducing the Lead exposure of Port Pirie's children and families, through an enhanced preventative program.
Assists in the implementation of a range of services, community wide awareness, education and information programs designed to enable reduction in community lead exposure and promote sustainable lead safe practices.
