About the Department for Correctional Services

The Department employs approximately 2,000 staff and has responsibility for nine prisons and fifteen Community Correctional offices across the state. Our vision is for a safer community by protecting the public and reducing re-offending. We work towards this through the contribution of staff who are employed in a wide variety of fields, from correctional officers and teachers, to social workers, psychologists and supervisors of court orders. Duties

The Family and Parenting Support Worker is responsible to the Manager Offender Development for supporting Aboriginal pregnant women and parents on admission and throughout their sentence to improve opportunities for culturally connected parenting practices that enhance rehabilitation and reunification with their children prior to release from custody by:

  • establishing and assessing parental needs,
  • providing information to parents, families and service providers regarding child placements,
  • leading child centred case management and transitional planning,
  • delivering parenting programs and interactive visit sessions,
  • creating opportunities to sustain child/parent communication, and
  • developing innovative partnerships with families, carers, researchers, community partners, government, and non-government agencies to deliver improved outcomes for women and men in custody

Special Conditions

  • Section 47 of the Public Sector Act 2009 applies in conjunction with other provisions of the act and other applicable industrial entitlements.
  • The incumbent is required to satisfactorily complete a National Criminal History Check.
  • A current South Australian Driver’s Licence is essential.
  • Must hold a current Working With Childrens Check.
  • A flexible approach to working hours is required.
  • Some interstate and intrastate travel will be required which may necessitate overnight absences

Requirements

AHP2 - 

Essential: A degree level qualification in Social Work leading to eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social WorkersDesirable: NIL

PO2 - 

Essential: Appropriate tertiary qualifications in community services, early child focused development, sociology, criminology, justice, correctional practice, social sciences, human services, health or related fieldDesirable: NIL

ASO5 -

Essential: NILDesirable: Tertiary studies in early childhood development or other similar discipline

Remuneration

AHP2 ($86,950 - $100,729 pa)

PO2 ($86,950 - $96,223 pa)

ASO5 ($84,522 - $94,003 pa)
