If so, you may be well suited to our Work Health and Safety Manager role within our Patrol Boat Systems Program Office in Darwin.

Our Darwin office is responsible for providing through-life support to the Navy’s Armidale Class Patrol Boats, ADF Cape Class Patrol Boats, and the evolved Cape Class Patrol Boats. The successful applicant will report to the PBSPO Director, who is responsible for providing expert construction safety advice and assistance to stakeholders including, Defence personnel and the In-Service Support Contractors and is highly skilled at managing key supplier relationships.

The Work Health and Safety Manager will perform and achieve complex to very complex work health and safety governance and assurance construction activities within an integrated workforce. Undertake specialist research and analysis, conduct reviews and exercise sound decision-making and judgement to provide expert policy advice. You will have an in-depth knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, Government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements, and will have the opportunity to engage and communicate regularly with In-Service Support Contractors, Navy personnel and other Defence agencies.

Our Ideal Candidate
As the Work Health and Safety Manager, you will be required to demonstrate a range of key competencies. These include:

Applying knowledge: We are looking for a Work Health and Safety Manager who understands and can apply relevant work health and safety legislation, Defence policies and procedures, and recommend viable solutions and prevention strategies to address work health and safety issues on construction sites within a governance and assurance context. We are looking for a Work Health and Safety Manager with a demonstrated background in the achievement of health and safety objectives, working within a similar high risk or complex environment.
Accountable: You will be accountable to ensure you have in-depth knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements. You will exercise a considerable degree of independence and perform a leadership role, providing governance and assurance of the In-Service Support Contractor construction activities. You will be accountable for organising your workflow, leading a team, managing allocated resources, setting work area priorities, and developing strategies and evaluating business outcomes.
Research, Analysis and WHS Risk Management: You will be adept in researching and analysing information, probing for clarity, producing solutions, making judgements and have the ability to think systematically. This includes the ability to research and analyse activities to identify and address work health and safety risks to capability, and recommend courses of action.
Communication and relationship management: You will be an excellent communicator, with the ability to leverage interpersonal skills to build and sustain productive relationships (internal and external) with team members and actively participate in team work and group activities involving construction work, health and safety. You will be required to actively manage key stakeholder relationships and will be required to identify relevant stakeholders’ expectations and concerns to develop and communicate methodologies and practices to achieve outcomes within the work, health and safety governance and assurance space.
Commitment to compliance: As a Work Health and Safety Manager, you will be someone who can demonstrate a commitment to a range of compliance requirements and show commitment to your organisation. You will interpret and provide expert advice within the work health and safety governance and assurance function and exercise independence in developing, implementing and reviewing work, health, safety and environmental plans and processes.
