As the Director Service Delivery (DSD) North Queensland (NQ) you are responsible for leading an integrated and regionally diverse workforce across the Northern and Central Zone (NCZ) Defence Estate.
You will exercise a significant degree of independence. DSD-NQ is responsible for influencing and developing strategies, policies, priorities and operational practices in support of Defence objectives based on high level decision making and judgement. You will provide strategic advice to senior management and stakeholders as well as leading and assuming accountability for very complex work that has strategic, political or operational significance including:
- Effective integration, coordination and provision of a wide range of estate services.
- Promoting effective integration and alignment of these regional services to ensure compliance with national consistency, objectives, innovation, reform and group outcomes are delivered.
- Assess and evaluate administrative, business, corporate and policy initiatives, identify issues and implement appropriate procedures and work practices.
About our Team
Northern and Central Zone is made up of teams in South and North Queensland, Northern Territory and the nothern quarter of Western Australia, all of which sit within the Service Delivery Division of the Security and Estate Group.
DSD-NQ is one of three Directors reporting to the Assistant Secretary Northern and Central Zone. DSD-NQ is responsible for a geographically dispersed team consisting of Base, Estate and Environment management teams which are located in Cairns, Townsville and Rockhampton.
The number of direct reports to the DSD-NQ is approximately six Executive Level 1 staff with a wider team of approximately 30 staff across the abovementioned locations. These teams deliver customer focused outcomes through effective, integrated partnerships with senior members of the Australian Defence Force Services, customers, contract partners and other stakeholders. DSD-NQ is responsible for portfolio of Defence sites within the North Queensland region.

DSDs are responsible for leading a large and devolved Service Delivery team within their direct line of responsibility as well as effectively influencing and engaging with our contract partners to support the delivery of effective and integrated services and reforms.
- Effective and well developed stakeholder relationship skills. The DSD must have the critical ability to foster networks and build strong relationships across organisational boundaries. Strong written and oral communication, including high-level advice in relation to reports, submissions, briefs and other documents as required.
- The capability to effectively drive and embed change and reform in your team. The DSD requires the ability to influence change and well as embed and drive achieving results through their people.
- High-level organisational skills, self-drive and initiative, with the ability to influence others to achieve tasks and business objectives in an ever-changing environment.
