  • $155,310 - $184,828 (plus super) - salary above the standard EL2 range ($129,391 - $155,309) is offered on a temporary basis and is reviewed annually. See your role for further details + up to 15.4% superannuation

The Role
Are you ready to lead integrated teams of professionals to deliver critical technology to protect the ADF?Are you a dynamic leader with a proven record of delivering complex projects in a fast-paced environment and who possesses exceptional stakeholder engagement, communication and negotiation skills, with a proven history of building, maintaining and growing productive and empowered teams?Joint Systems Division (JSD), within CASG, are looking to fill our Systems Program Office (SPO) Director positions. Reporting to a Branch Head, the SPO Director manages large multifaceted programs to deliver highly complex capabilities in support of the Joint Force effects for the ADF. You will be responsible for large, geographically dispersed and multi-disciplinary teams to achieve capability outcomes for Defence.The SPO Director is a strategic leader that motivates and empowers, ensures the application of strong security controls and governance processes, builds relationships across all levels of the organisation and provides confidence to Capability Managers and Senior Leaders that the capability acquired and sustained delivers agreed capability outcomes.About our Team
The Joint Systems Division (JSD) within CASG acquires and provides through-life support to a range of command and control systems, communication systems, tactical interoperability systems, and electromagnetic warfare systems.The Division is functionally arranged in three separate but interlinked Branches with a geographic presence in all of the Australian mainland states and territories and a small headquarters element in Canberra. JSD's prime and over-riding focus is to provide the best possible support to the ADF employing the materiel provided in protecting Australia’s interests.The Systems Project Office (SPO) Director within JSD will manage large complex programs and report directly to the Assistant Secretary of one of the three JSD Branches. The main function of the team, which the SPO Director will be accountable and responsible for, is to deliver Systems or Equipment through to the Capability Manager, on time, on budget and to requirements. This includes engaging with key stakeholders such as the Capability Manager, Industry partners and senior leaders across Defence.The SPO Director will be responsible for ensuring the activities performed within their Systems Program Office supports the delivery of Joint Force effects through to the ADF. This requires the SPO Director to manage projects and products at a programmatic level, where trade-offs are considered through a risk-based decision making process. The SPO Director will ensure their team develops strong security controls and governance processes that gives confidence to the Capability Manager and Senior Leaders that the capability meets the approved requirements.Our Ideal Candidate
Are you:
An experienced leader who can lead a diverse, highly integrated workforce of sustainment and acquisition, commercial, engineering and logistics teams to achieve delivery of endorsed capabilities on time, to budget and within the scope.An effective and confident communicator who understands audiences and can adjust their communication style to provide advice in a clear and concise manner. A highly engaged leader with highly developed emotional intelligence who is able to drive and delivery outcomes.An experienced program manager who can lead teams across all aspects of the capability life cycle, using Defence’s Capability Policy Framework and Capability Program Architecture, or have ability to quickly acquire this understanding.An innovative and adaptive thinker who will accept accountability while taking a risk-based and flexible approach to delivering outcomes. You will possess sound commercial and business acumen and a demonstrated understanding of the Defence industry sector in Australia.A strategic thinker who can demonstrate a high level of understanding of the Defence Strategic Review 2023, its impact for the acquisition, delivery and sustainment of capability and commitment to CASG 2.0 strategy.Prior to commencement, successful applicants will be required to undergo a psychological assessment and an extensive security clearance process. As a Positive Vetting clearance is required, applicants must be Australian Citizens; be able to account for their personal background for their whole life; and be able to demonstrate suitability to work in a high security intelligence environment.
