The Office of National Intelligence’s Assistant Directors, Intelligence Mission Management, play a critical role coordinating, integrating and evaluating the NIC’s efforts across the Indo-Pacific, guided by Government priorities.

ONI’s Mission Management Division (MMD) coordinates, integrates and evaluates the National Intelligence Community’s (NIC) activities across the Indo-Pacific, including the Pacific, Southeast Asia and East Asia regions.
The RolesONI’s Assistant Directors, Intelligence Mission Management, play a critical role coordinating, integrating and evaluating the NIC’s efforts across the Indo-Pacific, guided by Government priorities. The positions work closely and collaboratively with teams across ONI and with NIC agencies, policy customers and international partners to deliver intelligence insights to stakeholders.
The typical duties of an Assistant Director, Intelligence Mission Management include:
- Developing intelligence strategies and plans to guide the NIC with respect to the relevant Intelligence Mission.
- Supporting governance bodies to lead, coordinate and integrate the NIC to ensure alignment of the intelligence community.
- Coordinating opportunities for increased integration and alignment of mission activities undertaken by the NIC and contributing to the evaluation of the NIC's efforts against these missions.
- Engaging with key policy and intelligence partners and maintaining collaborative working relationships within the NIC, broader Australian Government, as well as international counterparts.
- Identifying capability gaps and resource shortfalls impacting the Intelligence Mission and developing approaches to address these gaps via ONI and broader Government processes.
- Contributing to regional intelligence diplomacy efforts through facilitation of and participation in intelligence and tradecraft exchanges, verbal briefings, training and other capacity building activities with foreign partners.

- An understanding of the national security landscape and how the broader strategic environment can impact the National Intelligence Community outcomes and outputs and Government decision-making.
- Advanced stakeholder engagement skills, including confidence to directly engage and collaborate with NIC counterparts to identify opportunities and achieve outcomes.
- Sound judgement and cultural sensitivity when communicating with foreign officials.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and manage productive and collaborative relationships and to promote work area strategic objectives across internal and external stakeholders.
- Advanced organisational and coordination skills, in addition to excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and excellent problem-solving.
- Ability to support, advocate for and drive new initiatives and deliver outcomes in an evolving environment.
