Job description

Our participants, Our people, Our purpose

Currently, there are around 4.3 million Australians with a disability. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) implements the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is one of the biggest social reforms in the country since Medicare. As an Agency, we support more than 600,000 participants with a significant and permanent disability, and the families and carers of those living with disability. For many Australians, this will be the first time they receive the disability support they need. The NDIA is designed to enhance the quality of life and increase economic and social participation for people with disability and will mean a peace of mind for every Australian.

A new role awaits

The Market Intervention and Commissioning Branch is seeking passionate and motivated EL1 Assistant Directors to join their team.

Our thriving branch focuses on establishing and testing policy frameworks to support the development and transition of difficult markets. We work in strong partnership with key stakeholders to support growth and build our market placement. At times this may include responding to thin markets in remote and very remote areas. The branch monitors the disability support market and intervenes when appropriate to ensure stability for our participants.

Where you can add value

In this leadership role, you will have expert and influential communication skills to engage with a range of diverse stakeholders. You will be able to lead a team in project activities, including planning, scheduling, monitoring, and managing any risks associated with that project. You will be able to monitor and evaluate the impact of disability support markets and identify areas of improvement to enable effective market development.

Responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

  • Working with relevant Agency stakeholders to design and embed operational models for commissioning NDIS supports for participants.
  • Applying appropriate quantitative and qualitative techniques to monitor the market using scheme and market data to build the evidence base for policy.
  • Ensuring project outcomes are measurable and align with the market development framework and where possible shared decision-making methodologies and the development of the community-controlled sector.
Enough about us, let’s talk about you

You will have an excellent understanding of thin markets including those in remote and very remote areas. You will possess strong leadership skills, be able to influence and negotiate on behalf of the branch with multiple stakeholders. You will be passionate about seeking continuous improvement in the delivery of services to participants through analysis and feedback.
This role will draw on candidates’ excellent communication skills, sound judgement skills, and demonstrated ability to lead a high performing team.

Your NDIA Experience

We work as one team. We are accepting, diverse and driven. We take a shared approach to making progress. We welcome and support each other and encourage different ideas, insights and opinions. We empower and enable each other to be our best. We collaborate, connect and work together to create a workplace that makes us proud. And while we are based far and wide across the country, we make sure nobody feels they are out on their own.

  • You will work for a socially inclusive and culturally diverse workplace, that is making a meaningful impact to the lives of more than 600,000 Australians.
  • Access to higher superannuation and above market leave entitlements
  • Competitive remuneration and working conditions that support a positive work life balance
  • Access to ongoing professional development and learning
