El1 Assistant Director Of Media And Crisis Communications

HorizonOne is proud to be partnering with a federal government agency that delivers a whole-of-nation approach to preparedness, response, and recovery in times of crisis, emergency, and disaster. This agency manages domestic and international issues, which include supply chain disruptions, critical infrastructure outages, biosecurity risks, and widespread cyber-attacks.

The Opportunity

This is an opportunity to join the Media and Crisis Communications team which provides high-level expertise and advice in media, Crisis Communications, and public affairs to Agency senior leadership, and the offices of the Minister and the Prime Minister.

• This role will see you collaborating across the branch and agency while establishing strong relationships with key external stakeholders of all levels of seniority
• You will play a pivotal role in Australia’s preparedness, response, and recovery in times of disaster and Crisis
• Engagement options include a 12-month temporary s26 transfer for permanent APS employees or a non-ongoing contract 

The Role

• Develop media strategies, media responses, media releases, media enquiries, talking points and speeches on behalf of the Agency, Minister, and Prime Minister
• Undertake media monitoring and reporting while escalating emerging issues
• Assist with the development of proactive media opportunities to promote the work of the Agency
• Provide high-level media, Crisis Communications, and public affairs advice
• Establish strong relationships with key high-level stakeholders
• Develop and implement communications strategies
• Develop communications in fast-paced and rapidly evolving crisis situations 

The Ideal Person

You will be a skilled and collaborative Assistant Director with demonstrated experience at the EL1 level within the APS, coupled with practical communications and media expertise.

You will also have the following:

• Exceptional writing skills, attention to detail, and high expectations for quality
• Demonstrated capability to effectively oversee multiple initiatives concurrently
• Ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously and to work autonomously to achieve agreed plans and objectives
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, coupled with the maturity to engage effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders from various backgrounds.

Salary / Rate

• 12-month temporary s26 transfer or non-ongoing contract options available
• EL1: $117,335 - $133,729 + 15.4% super
• You must hold a baseline security clearance and be willing to obtain an NV1 clearance if required
• Flexibility to work from home up to two days per week
• Location: Canberra
