The Company
Our client are a National tier 1 Electrical Contractor with a huge footprint in the Electrical Construction, Service, Minor works & Maintenance markets. They’ve appointed new Sydney GM a couple of years ago which has lead to their revenue & headcount in NSW more than doubling.
They don’t hire and fire, running a direct labor model with a lot of their sparks having been with the business for 10 + years. They’re doing really well across all divisions, and also get a huge number of inbound service, maintenance & repair enquiries in both the HV & LV electrical space. This is where this position comes in to play
The position
- You’ll be working in a bit of an account management, estimation & sales type position. It’s going to suit someone who has been, or current is on the tools and understands how maintenance and repair jobs work, but understands and enjoys the customer focused / sales aspect of their role.
- In essence a cracking opportunity probably for either someone who wants to get into either estimating or account management, but probably can’t see much of a route to get there where they’re currently at. It could also be a great role for someone who has been on the tools in a service & maintenance position with some sales experience.
- Your day to day will be a mix of putting together quotes and estimating the cost of maintenance projects (LV & HV), influencing clients to use your services, and then following up with the project managers and techs to make sure everyone is well aware what needs to be done.
What do you need to succeed?
- You’re going to have to need some technical knowledge of how electrical maintenance & repair jobs work – understanding how travel to site, labor hours on a job & material costs effect the pricing side of a job.
- Ideally you will be a qualified Electrician or hold an Electrical Engineering degree.
- Personality is important here. You’ll need to be able to help clients come to a decision once you’ve put the work in to get to the end point of a sales process.
- You should also be keen to make money. There are revenue targets, with you getting a % of the gross value of every job that you quote. The better you do, the more money you make from a commission standpoint. You should also like getting in front of people and building relationships.
- My client's brand, reputation & technical capability are excellent, so you’ve got everything you need to do well in this role.
Salary & Benefits
You’ll be starting off on a base of between 120,000 – 130,000 + commission + super. Commission on average in these types of roles comes in at anywhere between $5,000 - $10,000 a quarter depending on your performance. Not bad at all considering all of your prospects are people who actually need the work doing, who know your new company, and just need a bit of a helping hand to be able to come to a decision
