Are you a talented and self-motivated designer with a passion for electrical systems? PSD Energy is seeking a dedicated Electrical Switchboard Designer to join our innovative team in North Lakes, Brisbane. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Switchboard Designer or an experienced electrician to transition into an office based role using their CAD skills.
About the Role:
As an Electrical Switchboard Designer, you will:
- Analyse and interpret schematics and control diagrams.
- Support Electrical Engineers in designing electrical setups and systems for substations, switchgear, cables, and motor controls.
- Use AutoCAD, MicroStation, Cubic, or other specialized software to create layouts for distribution systems, motor control switchboards, and control panels.
- Define and suggest specifications and functional requirements for new projects.
- Implement innovative solutions and develop customized design tools to automate repetitive tasks.
- Contribute to the development and enhancement of "Modular" Switchboard design systems and processes.
- Participate in the review and refinement of work practices to improve efficiency.
- Assist in the preparation of feasibility studies, surveys, reports, design layouts, specifications, and material lists.
- Perform tests, complex calculations, and prepare charts and tabulations.
- Inspect designs and finished products for compliance with specifications and regulations.
Desirable Competencies:
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, Cubic, or other design software.
- Background in switchboard or sheet metal manufacture.
- Knowledge of Australian Standards (AS 3000 and AS 61439).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative working style.
- Strong planning and time management skills.
- Adaptability and flexibility in approach to work.
- Experience with Cubic, Elsteel, and xEnergy modular systems (desirable but not essential).
- Electrical Mechanic License (desirable but not essential).
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
- Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Associate Degree, or other relevant qualification in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in Electrical Switchboard design.
- Experience in control wiring and Electrical Switchboard manufacturing.
- Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or other specialized design software.
- Valid driver's license.
