Job description

City of Newcastle (CN) is looking for an experienced Development Assessment Engineer to lead our Engineering Assessment team in providing high-level professional service and specialist technical engineering advice to CN and the community. This position is pivotal in ensuring that development in the Newcastle local government area is consistent with planning instruments, development policies, relevant standards and environmental legislation. 

As the Engineering Assessment Section Manager, you will be responsible for managing the team budget whilst having a strong focus on formulating and implementing systems, processes and procedures that deliver continuous improvement, within our policy liaison and advice, development and Engineering Assessment and advice, legal case management and risk management.

This position will see you work cohesively and collaboratively with the City-Wide Development Assessment Manager and Service Unit Manager of Planning and Development allowing you to provide your expertise in the area of Engineering Assessment and oversee the operations of the Engineering Assessment Team including staff recruitment, staff management, the coordination of work and the promotion of a positive work culture.
