Job Description

Australia's leading broadcast video on demand platform, 9Now, offers a destination for consumers around Australia to catch up on their favourite programs and watch live TV anywhere, anytime, on their chosen device.

We're looking for a highly-skilled technical leader with proven people & development team management experience to lead a team of engineers focused on delivering an amazing experience to Connected TVs.

To succeed in this role, you will have a passion for managing people and a background in building high-quality front-end applications. You will be able to organise and motivate teams to consistently deliver on significant roadmaps of enhancements and lead a team of high-performing Engineers.

You will have confidence discussing complex technical concepts with your peers and can articulate them simply and clearly to business stakeholders. You will manage multiple relationships, including product managers, senior tech leadership and external vendors.

What you'll be doing

Enabling your team

Work with stakeholders to provide technical solutions to problems or issues

Act as a enabler, removing roadblocks to progress as needed

Maintain high quality standards for yourself and software engineering practices of your team

Work with team members to guide solutions towards business and technology goals

Drive the continuous improvement of processes and ways of work to improve team capacity and capability

Technical Leadership

Drive adoption of best practice and best in class technology

Remove single points of failure by cross-skilling staff and making sensible, strategic resourcing decisions

Drive high performance

Provide one on one feedback, career advice and coaching for your team members

Communicate openly and be the voice of the business within your team, keeping them informed of and working towards the business vision & goals

Participate in hiring and other HR processes affecting your team where needed

Mentor team members to create a highly motivated, coherent, and cohesive culture which rewards high performance

Qualifications

You are passionate about your team and their professional development. You remain engaged in their wellbeing, growing their skillset and assisting them in finding great opportunities to further themselves.

You are keen and capable of being 'hands-on', but you make the choice when and if you should be involved. Your experience in this area allows you to provide meaningful support to your team by reviewing work and providing feedback.

Your 'can-do' and open customer centred approach makes you approachable to work with. You will contribute to a learning-oriented workplace culture, being curious about the world around you, seeking new ways to explore and bring new thinking and practices to bear within your team. You remain open to learning new technologies and techniques, and finding creative ways to leverage this knowledge to further team goals. Agile work & planning practices are second nature to how you operate.

What you'll know

2+ years in a team or technical leadership role managing people

4+ years experience in web or software development

Strong technical knowledge and hands-on development capability in relevant technologies. (eg. Javascript, ReactJS or others as required by the squad)

Proven skills creating a high performance team environment

Managing yourself and your team in a fast changing environment with competing priorities

A strong understanding of agile development best practices including Scrum and Lean methodologies

Excellent communication skills
