Job description

The Opportunity:

Excellent opportunity for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead and manage the engineering team with crucial engineering processes and contribute to strategic decisions to support the growth of renewable asset development across solar, wind, battery energy storage systems (BESS) and hybrid projects.

The Engineering Manager will provide and coordinate technical and engineering input into the identification, due diligence, development, and delivery of power generation assets. These technical and engineering inputs will include technology selection, balance of plant design, grid connection works, development of technical documentation to support procurement activities, and overview of installation, construction, commissioning, testing of works, warranty and operational support of existing and new projects.

The role will be accountable to the Head of Engineering and Asset Delivery and the role can be worked flexibly between home and our new Southbank office- hybrid model. Travel to project sites will be required.

Reasonable requests for part time work will be considered.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Design, coordinate and deliver on engineering and technical work packages in support of project acquisition efforts, our existing project developments, and general business activities
  • Lead technical workstreams for new project developments. These activities include grid connections, inclusive of leading technical negotiations, generational analysis and OEM equipment optimisations, leading Balance of Plant works across civil and electrical packages, and integration of SCADA and cybersecurity requirements
  • Manage engineering deliverables, associated resources and budgets within the broader project budget and schedule and coordinate with the relevant development / project manager. This includes managing external reliance reports and requirements, and the responsibility of outcomes for each of the financial reliance and for external contractor works to be undertaken.
  • Support the identification and evaluation of business growth opportunities (primarily generation assets) and their value and undertake technology analysis and evaluations to support business initiatives and decision making
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with transmission and distribution network service providers, regulators, the wholesale market operator, other market participants and specialist consultants including JV parties and consortium partners

About You:

The successful incumbent will be experienced in energy asset projects in the Australian energy market with an understanding of renewable energy project engineering and requirements. You will be able to manage complexity, make quality decisions and can optimise work processes. You possess excellent communication skills and can balance multiple stakeholders.

In addition, the successful incumbent will have:

  • Experience in all facets of engineering such as design, development, technology and specification and can act independently while guiding and training others on executing engineering designs, using the appropriate methods, tools, processes, software; to get results using new and advanced engineering technologies and technical specifications
  • Ability to interpret and apply comprehensive knowledge of laws, regulations and policies in area of expertise
  • Experience in implementing engineering designs, evaluating outcomes and then making improvements as needed
  • Comprehensive knowledge and skills to independently manage and apply safe systems of work while providing guidance and training to others to ensure a safety-first mindset
  • Project development experience including leading technical work packages for generation assets
