About the Role
This role is a 24 month fixed term contract
With an extensive and diverse pipeline of facilities maintenance projects, Sydney Airport (SYD) is seeking an experienced Engineering Services Design Manager to join the Design team for a 24 month contract.
Sydney Airport is one of Australia’s most important pieces of infrastructure. It is our international gateway and an essential part of our transport network, connecting to more than 90 destinations around the world.
The Engineer Services Design Manager is a strategic, and collaborative leader, responsible for the design and development of project lifecycle. Your goal is to provide planning and design expertise, in doing this you will have accountability for leading a team of stakeholders in identifying, creating, and delivering a range of projects.
What you’ll be doing
As the Engineer Services Design Manager you will provide several key functions, including:
- Planning – assessment of demand and capacity; and development of strategic paper in conjunction with Engineering Services consultants in response to Sydney Airport Master Plan
- Design Governance – development and maintenance of design guidelines, performance briefs, standard details, and scope of services
- Subject Matter Expertise – provision of technical inputs and advice to support various business units
- Design Management – provision of design management including cost, time and quality control and incorporating sustainability and safety in design
- Construction support – provision of technical support during construction phase including inspections, staging, commissioning, and operational readiness
- Operational support – provision of technical support to the Airport operation and facilities teams including asset life cycle, system fine-tuning, and incident investigation.
- Development Management – Preparation and ongoing management of business cases and obtaining internal approvals.
About you
We are looking for an experienced engineering design professional for a role that blends technical expertise with strategic vision and stakeholder engagement. We are seeking a candidate who is a continuous learner, innovative thinker, and a team player. You should excel in managing diverse stakeholders, have meticulous attention to detail, and thrive in fast-paced environments.
This role will involve leveraging your extensive experience in Engineering Services planning and design (ideally 7-10 years), particularly in Building Services Engineering, to drive operational excellence and asset renewal. You will be responsible for developing strategic business cases, managing budgets, and obtaining senior executive approvals.
You will have a strong background working on the client side, in an operational environment, and experience in design associated with asset renewal. Your design experience will include sustainability and safety in design, and you will be a strong project manager.
