Full Time – Ongoing

ABOUT US

Tasmanian Irrigation Pty Ltd is a State-owned Company that develops, owns and operates irrigation schemes in Tasmania, in accordance with sound commercial practice, to facilitate the expansion of agricultural production in the State.

Tasmanian Irrigation owns and operates 19 irrigation schemes across the state, along with additional inherited infrastructure. Tasmanian Irrigation’s promise to our irrigator customers is to “provide irrigators reliable and consistent water at the lowest sustainable price while responsibly and sustainably managing our water resources, scheme assets and the environment.”

The Company also oversees development of irrigation schemes, funded through a unique public / private partnership model.

Tasmanian Irrigation now oversees 26,000 individual infrastructure assets with a replacement value of approximately $500 million and has the capacity to deliver more than 151,000 megalitres of irrigation water each year.

All schemes developed and operated by Tasmanian Irrigation are economically viable, environmentally sustainable, have strong community endorsement, are designed to last at least 100 years and deliver water at an average reliability of more than 95 per cent per annum.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

This position plays a pivotal role in ensuring that Tasmanian Irrigation's (TI) infrastructure projects adhere to environmental regulations, mitigate risks, and maintain compliance throughout the project lifecycle. 

In addition to providing support and advice to the Project team during the project and construction planning phases, this role involves onsite auditing and monitoring of contractor compliance during construction of our schemes.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED

Key to this role will be an individual’s ability to:

  • Lead the development and implementation of Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMPs) during the project pre-construction phase.
  • Prepare construction environmental tables and plans.
  • Conduct regular environmental audits and compliance inspections at construction sites.
  • Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with Commonwealth and State environmental approvals, regulations, and project requirements.
  • Work closely with project managers and construction teams to identify and address environmental risks.
  • Provide guidance and support on environmental best practices during construction planning and delivery phase.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and contractors to ensure compliance with environmental permits and approvals.
  • Review and approve contractor environmental documentation, including permits, reports, and studies.
  • Conduct environmental incident investigations and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Provide environmental training and awareness programs for construction teams.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to promote environmental stewardship and sustainability.

The successful candidate will have: 

  • Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Engineering, Natural Resource Management, or related field.
  • Experience in developing Construction Environmental Management Plans.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Federal and State environmental regulations and permitting processes related to construction projects.
  • Experience in conducting environmental audits and compliance inspections in a construction setting.
  • Demonstrated stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent organisational and project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with GIS
  • Drivers Licence
