‘Battery of the Nation’ is Hydro Tasmania’s bold vision to maximise Tasmania’s hydropower capacity, including the redevelopment of the Tarraleah hydropower scheme to a more flexible, future proof generating asset and developing our first pumped hydro scheme at Lake Cethana.

About You:

As an environmental professional with a background in construction-related environmental management, you’ll bring a unique blend of skills and expertise. Your hands-on experience collaborating with diverse stakeholders on construction sites has honed your ability to navigate complex challenges and build positive working relationships. You will possess auditing experience and have implemented effective erosion and sediment control, water, and vegetation management practices and ensure environmental management plans are implemented and rigorously followed. Your willingness to be based on-site in Tarraleah (Monday – Friday) highlights your commitment to hands-on involvement and direct engagement with project activities. This readiness to immerse yourself in the dynamic environment not only demonstrates your dedication but also allows you to fully understand and address environmental challenges as they arise in real-time.

About the role:

This 2-year fixed term position will be based on site at our Tarraleah location, where during the week you will be provided accommodation (Monday – Friday) at Tarraleah village with access to all its amenities.

This role is pivotal in ensuring that on-site environmental management practices align with best practices and regulatory requirements. Working closely with contractors and the project team, you'll build positive working relationships to ensure strict adherence to regulatory requirements and the Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP), managing and monitoring environmental outcomes, and providing guidance on best practice environmental management practices. Acting as the primary point of contact for onsite environmental matters, you'll support contractors and conduct regular inspections to address issues promptly. Additionally, you'll assist in implementing and enhancing tools and processes associated with the environmental management system. While initially deployed to Tarraleah this role will extend to supporting Hydro Tasmania's Battery of the Nation program in the longer term, emphasising the importance of your contribution in maintaining consistent and robust environmental management practices.
