About the Role:
The position is responsible for identifying and obtaining all statutory environmental approvals (State and Commonwealth) for a large iron ore project in the Pilbara district of Western Australia. You will also be responsible for establishing an environmental compliance system for construction.
The successful candidate will have had extensive experience with approvals and permits (State and Commonwealth), environmental management plans, identifying solutions to complex approval pathways and project management of approvals strategies including the management of specialist consultants. You will have had significant experience with managing a multitude of internal and external stakeholders, developing and implementing tailored engagement strategies, environmental planning, environmental assessments, impact statements, and risk management.
Responsibilities:
- Identification of all State and Commonwealth statutory approvals in accordance with the project approval strategy
- Develop, author and lead application documents for the State and Commonwealth approvals.
- With a small team, manage the delivery of approvals to meet construction and operational timeframes.
- Assist in the preparation of environmental review documents and response to public submissions.
- Develop specific scopes of work for specialist consultants. Manage the execution of work to meet quality, budget and schedule requirements.
- Lead the development and implementation of environment compliance systems to support project delivery, including the project's ground disturbance system.
- Handle internal and external departmental inquiries, negotiate disputes, and resolve grievances and conflicts, to establish preferred organisational outcomes.
- Produce reports in support of project objectives and ensure allocation of resources is commensurate with project delivery timeframes.
Essential:
- Minimum of 15 years' experience in Environment and Heritage matters within a mining or major project environment.
- 15 years' experience dealing with government agencies over policy, regulatory & legislative matters.
- Minimum of 10 years' experience operating at a management level.
- Experience dealing with traditional owners and community groups (social surrounds).
- Comprehensive understanding of legislative & regulatory systems related to major project approvals.
- Ability to apply high-level written communication to prepare comprehensive technical reports, studies, and plans, with finely tuned analytical and research skills.
- Track record in managing issues and effective engagement with stakeholders to achieve outcomes and deliver mining approvals.
- Demonstrated project management expertise.
- High level of verbal and written communication skills.
