About the Position
Ensure facility is always in compliance with Federal, State and Local regulations.
Maintain ISO 14001 certification by implementing improvements in facility management systems, internal environmental audits, corrective action plans and continual improvement activities.
Direct plant programs and projects aimed at reducing waste disposal costs and increasing recycling of materials in concert with Corporate goals/requirements including auditing and approval of waste vendors.
Manage facility and process information and activities to ensure all required reporting, permitting and communication with regulators and Corporate are complete, accurate and up-to-date.
Primary Responsibilities
Identify and apply applicable Federal, State, and Local regulations. Develop and implement systems and procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations. Conduct compliance evaluations and implement necessary changes to ensure all findings are resolved.
Identify permit requirements, calculate emissions, prepare applications, and submit to regulatory authorities for approval. Negotiate with regulators on permit terms and conditions.
Review and approve facility, process, and material changes that have the potential for environmental impact and/or facility permit changes.
Direct facility activities required to ensure all permit terms and conditions are being met. Ensure corrective and preventative actions are taken, including timely reporting to regulators, should deviations occur. Periodically review new or amended regulations for applicability.
Direct programs and assign tasks to plant functional areas for reducing waste to landfill and solvent purchased. Evaluate and approve waste vendors through site audits for any vendor used to transport, recycle, or dispose of waste materials generated at the plant. Accurately evaluate and report on all activities associated with Sarbanes-Oxley/FIN-47 reporting and financial requirements.
Education and Requirements
A Bachelor's Degree is required in Technical/Science major or Engineering.
A Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Engineering or Chemical Engineering is desired.
Management or staff position in a mid-size and/or moderately complex manufacturing environment with knowledge of environmental regulations and ISO 14001 environmental management systems. Preferably 2 years of industry experience in a manufacturing environment. Approximately two years managing small to medium projects independently and approximately two years of managing large projects with assistance. Track records of managing progressively large / more complex projects and keep a record of developing and implementing environmental programs.
Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of federal, state and local regulations and the determination of applicability.
Skills in planning, organizing and successfully completing projects.
Capable of managing contractors and consultants and the costs associated with their activities.
Solid experience creating and delivering cause and effect analysis. Knowledge of financials - cost and return on investments.
Ability to effectively communicate by written and oral presentation
