Environmental Health Officer

SALARY: $1,646.49 - 2,082.44 pw + Super +Leaseback Vehicle

This is a grade range position, therefore inaccordance with qualifications, accreditation, experience and demonstratedskills, the prospective employee will be assessed between Grade 14 to 16.

Location: Oran Park Administration Building - 70 Central Avenue, Oran Park 2570

Essential:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant science, applied science or similar degree, with previous experience in an environmental health role

  • A sound working knowledge and expertise in the application and administration of current Acts and associated Regulations as they relate to the environment and public health

  • Local Government Act

  • Protection of the Environment Operations Act

  • Food Act

  • Public Health Act

  • Contaminated Lands Management Act

  • All other relevant legislation and standards currently in use by local government EHO’s

  • Experience in inspection and regulation of regulated premises

  • Experience in investigating and resolving complaints relating to air, water, noise, land, on-site sewage management systems and public health issues

  • Ability to make sound judgements and interpretations based on analysis of information and complex situations

  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) with demonstrated conflict resolution skills

Desirable:

  • Postgraduate qualifications in environmental science or management, or a related discipline

  • The ability to solve problems using research, analysis and evaluation of information which is often not readily available

  • Experience in approvals, inspection and regulation of on-site sewage management facilities

To meet Council’s WHS requirements and inaccordance with Council’s Covid-19 Safety Plans, this position has beenidentified via risk assessment to be required to be fully vaccinated forCOVID-19 or provide evidence of an approved medical contraindication. If amedical contraindication certificate is provided, it will be assessed against arisk assessment and the decision of whether Council accepts the medicalcontraindication certificate, will be based on operational needs.
