About the Role:
Are you driven by a passion for environmental stewardship and compliance excellence? Be part of this commitment and join our team as the Environmental Manager - Compliance and Improvements for our Australian operations, mining, refining and smelting.
At Alcoa, our commitment to environmental governance is paramount. As the Environmental Manager - Compliance and Improvements, you will be instrumental in ensuring compliance with the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 and the Environmental Protection Act 1986. Your role will involve translating intricate compliance expectations into actionable tasks and reinforcing our dedication to sustainable environmental practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide governance and leadership to ensure compliance with State and Commonwealth environmental laws, regulations, permits, licenses, and Alcoa standards.
Identify and monitor changes to environmental laws and regulations, raising concerns and potential challenges to internal stakeholders.
Assess environmental compliance for existing operations, joint ventures, acquisitions, and new projects.
Support the implementation of new approvals for operational activities.
Support the locations in establishing, reviewing and auditing environmental compliance management programs and integrating compliance expectations into day-to-day operations.
Represent the regional environmental function in the businesses' long-term planning strategy.
Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to integrate environmental compliance strategies into operations.
Facilitate sharing of compliance solutions and best practices among regional and global Alcoa operations.
Support technical studies and environmental impact assessments as required by relevant legislation.
Lead compliance negotiations and manage resolution strategies.

What you can bring to the role:
To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:
Degree qualification in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management or Engineering is essential
Extensive experience in the environmental field, with a track record of managing major environmental approvals in the industry, specifically under the EPBC Act 1999.
Background of working within the resources sector in a leadership roles.
Advanced knowledge of State and Federal environmental requirements in the mining industry.
Ability to analyse information to solve complex environmental challenges.
Experience working with regulators, consultants, and third-party organizations.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate and motivate multidisciplinary teams.
This opportunity is based on a permanent, full time basis, with some flexibility to work work from home.
