About the Role
The Environmental Specialist is responsible for managing the environmental performance of SRS whilst also developing, implementing, and monitoring environmental strategies to promote sustainable development and preparedness for all relevant environmental regulations. This position reports to the Associate Director, HSEQ and Risk and is part of the Wider Leadership Group, working across SRS establishing strong productive relationships with the operational teams, Delivery Manager and DTP stakeholders that add value to operational decision making and the achievement of environmental outcomes.
This role is accountable for:
• developing and implementing environmental strategies, policies, practices and action plans to ensure sustainable development
• promoting compliance with environmental regulatory obligations
• actively contributing to Divisional and HSEQ and Risk team initiatives
• effectively engaging stakeholders in delivering assigned HSEQ & Risk improvement initiatives
The Environmental Specialist is responsible for leading, coaching, and mentoring the business to implement a culture of continuous improvement, ensuring best practice environmental outcomes. This role requires high-level interpersonal and stakeholder management skills for liaising with internal and external stakeholders and will work closely with operational leaders across SRS to deliver successful environmental outcomes.

Position Outcomes
The strategy focuses on risk reduction by improving Environmental Management Systems and ensuring compliance with environmental laws through stakeholder engagement. It champions environmental protection by educating the business on health and environmental impacts. The role involves leading HSEQ & Risk strategy implementation, providing leadership and training, conducting audits, and reporting performance. It fosters innovation by developing and monitoring environmental strategies, engages key stakeholders to build partnerships, and promotes safe, inclusive, and flexible team operations.

Qualifications and Experience
Mandatory
• At least five years’ experience in a similar or comparable role, preferably in a government/public service context.
• Tertiary qualification in a relevant or related field
Desirable
• Strong experience in project management and delivery to improve operational performance
Role Specific Requirements
• Driver’s License
• Ability and willingness to travel and work across locations within metropolitan and regional Victoria.
