The Alkimos Seawater Desalination Plant will guarantee Perth's future water needs for generations to come.
To reduce our dependence on rainfall and groundwater and support the growing population, Water Corporation has formed the Alkimos SeaWater Alliance, which includes ACCIONA Construction Australia.
The Alliance will design, construct, operate and maintain the Plant which will produce 50 billion litres of drinking water per year, with provision to expand by an additional 50 billion litres per year in the future. Having already constructed 89 desalination plants worldwide, ACCIONA is a pioneer and the global leader in the sustainable desalination sector.
Construction of the Alkimos Seawater Desalination Plant will commence over the coming months and the project is expected to be completed in 2029. We are putting out this Expression of Interest to suitably experienced Safety Advisors who would like to register their interest for upcoming opportunities on this landmark project.
Reporting to a Safety Manager, you will co-ordinate all of Health and Safety systems within the Project, identify hazards and assess risks to Health and Safety, recommend appropriate safety controls to the construction team and provides advice on incident prevention and occupational health to management and employees.
Key accountabilities for the position:
- Undertake regular and systematic audits, covering management systems, safe work procedures, behavioural safety and preventative measures
- Undertake thorough risk assessments of all tasks and activities.
- Undertake site safety walks, either with the client or management, ensuring close out (hands on) of all corrective actions
- Provide timely and expert HSEQ support, advice and assistance to all project personnel
- Carry out and provide support during incident investigations
- Help facilitate and have a consistent presence at pre-start meetings and toolbox talks
- Creation of Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS'); Plant Hazard Risk Assessments (PHRAs); and Related Quality documentation and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs)
Required skills and competencies
- You will have a minimum of a certificate IV in Work Health & Safety withbut further tertiary study highly regarded
- You will have a solid foundation of site-based experience supporting a civil , marine or tunnelling projects.
- Demonstrated ability to lead safety audits and investigations and deliver reporting in accordance with Acciona policy and procedures
- Well-developed communication skills and an ability to build and maintain relationships with a broad range of stakeholders including Client Representatives, Project leadership teams, subcontractors, local authorities and other regulatory bodies.
