Job description

ABOUT AGSAFE

Agsafe was established in 1993 as an industry-led non-profit organisation following a commitment to product stewardship by the Board of Agricultural and Veterinary Chemical Association (now CropLife Australia), to ensure safe transport, storage and handling of agricultural and veterinary (AgVet) chemicals throughout the supply chain.

Agsafe was established to deliver the industry’s flagship stewardship programs. These are the Agsafe Member Services and Training program, the drumMUSTER and ChemClear® programs.

Agsafe members are located across every Australian state and territory and include retailers and manufacturers of AgVet chemicals, as well as transport and logistics locations. 

KEY OBJECTIVES

  • Develop and maintain strategies to effectively communicate requirements for compliance with the Agsafe Industry Standard, Regulations, and best practice, both on an individual basis and across the AgVet Chemical Industry.
     
  • Develop and maintain relationship with key industry stakeholders including Regulators, Compliance executives in corporate member companies, corporate Safety, Health, and Environment Managers etc.
     
  • Maintain the Agsafe Industry Standard and ensure it reflects current Regulatory and industry requirements including the development and maintenance of the Safety Culture templates to allow for completion of premises assessments.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Provide technical support to all aspects of the member services programs.
     
  • Deliver and maintain the Quality Assurance programs for Agsafe’s premises and training programs to ensure that all Facilitators and Trainers (Independent Contractors) provide consistent and high-quality service and accurate information consistent with the Agsafe Industry Standard.
     
  • Develop and maintain training materials including the regular review of existing material to ensure accuracy and currency. 
     
  • Provide specialised training such as the Agsafe Masterclass to key stakeholders and their staff. 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • A successful applicant is expected to have a relevant tertiary qualification relating to Agriculture or Science. 
     
  • Extensive prior auditing experience or a willingness to complete training in auditing procedures and practices.
     
  • Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment.
     

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • A demonstrated ability to learn and implement highly technical concepts and quickly apply these to real-life industry situations. 
     
  • A demonstratable understanding of compliance concepts and an ability to review and understand regulations and similar documents to determine requirements and compliance.
     
  • It is expected that the Agsafe Technical Manager will have extensive industry experience within the AgVet Chemical Industry either with a manufacturing company of AgVet Chemicals or a retail premises whose business focuses on the sale of AgVet Chemical products.  It would be expected that such experience would span 10 – 15 years depending on tertiary qualifications and direct relevance of the experience to the Agsafe Industry Standard concepts. 
     
  • Persons who have a similar level of experience focusing on chemical storage and handling from a similar chemical-based industry would be considered suitable.
     
  • Managerial experience in a technical environment would be considered an advantage.
     
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical people.
     
  • Experience in AgVet Chemicals as an end user or experience in agronomy roles are not considered as relevant experience unless also supported by one of the above.


This is a Canberra-based role and will require travel 85% of the first 12 months, reducing to 50% thereafter or as required.
