What you'll be doing

The Research Ethics and Governance Officer is responsible for undertaking comprehensive governance including Site Specific Assessment of all research activities and for providing ethics review and secretariat support to the SESLHD Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC).
Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing.
All workers and new recruits are required to receive 2 doses of a Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine to commence employment/ engagement or continue to work within a NSW Health service.
A worker and new recruit will be considered compliant if they have a medical contraindication to all available Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccines and provide medical contraindication evidence in line with the policy requirements.
In addition, all Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant.
Category A workers and new recruits who are non-compliant with seasonal influenza vaccination or have a medical contraindication to influenza or COVID-19 vaccinations must comply with all other infection control risk reduction strategies as directed while working in a Category A position.

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or demonstrated equivalent experience in a previous research ethics or governance role.
  • Demonstrated broad understanding of the health and medical research environment in NSW and Australia.
  • Sound understanding of legislation, codes and guidelines relevant to research Ethics and Governance, in particular the NHMRC National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research (2007), the Privacy Act (1988) and supplementary guidelines, the Human Tissue Act (1983) and the Therapeutic Goods Act (1989).
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret legal documents and draft complex documents related to research activities.
  • High level understanding of university, hospital and government research environments and processes.
  • Highly developed and effective communication, interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated effective time management skills with the ability to prioritise workload to meet conflicting deadlines.
  • Demonstrated experience in using Microsoft Office applications (including Word, Excel and Publisher), online databases for research data management and web-based applications.
