Job description

About Us

We're Australia's leading West African Music specialist. We offer workshops, retreats in Ghana, Bali, Australia and NZ, and our instruments which we make using traditional crafting methods. We also manage our sister company Bashiri, importing art and handmade baskets from Ghana.
We respect culture & tradition but embrace forward thinking and innovation in running the company.

We pride ourselves on giving back to the community and ensuring our ventures are eco-friendly and sustainable.

About the Role
We are looking for a team member that is highly organised, has an exceptional attention to detail, thrives with multi-tasking and excels in customer service.

This Events Coordinator role is 2 days per week (Wednesday and Thursday), with the potential to expand to 3 days per week in the future. You may occasionally be requested to work up to 5 days per week, to cover leave.

We're open for this role to be undertaken from our offices in St Kilda, working from home, or a hybrid of both!

There is no requirement to be present at events.

Key responsibilities include, although not limited to:

  • End to end event management, from quoting to post-event follow up.
  • Client liaison - including meeting virtually to discuss objectives and logistics of their event.
  • Managing a team of casual performers and facilitators - including bookings and confirmation.
  • Fielding email and phone enquiries.
  • Basic invoice management.
  • Coordinating event logistics.
  • Overseeing and coordinating studio hire.
  • Planning & coordinating Regional Tours.
  • Coordinating flights and accommodation for performers.
  • Supporting the broader African Drumming and Bashiri team in quieter events periods.

About You

You are a team player; you thrive in a dynamic environment and have the ability to manage competing priorities, with the following attributes:

  • Fine attention to detail.
  • Calm and composed approach.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Proven customer service skills.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritise and multitask
  • Technology savvy and a fast learner of new tech - a strong knowledge of Google Workspace, Dropbox and WordPress is desirable, but not essential.

Our ideal candidate is an easy-going, curious problem-solver with a calm and composed approach.

Why Work with Us

Not only will you be part of a fun and caring community, but you will enjoy discounts on workshops, retreats, instruments, and African baskets and art, as well as free access to drumming lessons.
We encourage opportunities for professional development and upskilling and want to hear how your passions and infinite learning can add value to the team.

Our team is creative, supportive and enthusiastic, and they love what they do. We like people who are direct and speak their mind, are happy to challenge ideas, and can think outside the box - but always with respect and encouragement.

How to Apply

Along with your resume/CV, please include a cover letter that tells us a bit about ‘you’ and how you are what we're looking for.

We’ll be processing applications as they come in, so you’re encouraged to apply as early as possible if this looks like the role for you. Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted.
