How will I help?

As an Executive Manager you will be responsible for overseeing and providing second line Compliance support to General Insurance (including Lenders Mortgage Insurance) businesses within the Consumer & Business Banking Division of the Westpac Group. Compliance provides high quality advice on all compliance-related issues, including strategic regulatory insight. We are Risk specialists, and provide independent oversight, insight and control as part of our Second Line of Defence accountabilities.

Your responsibilities are but not limited to;
  • Providing expert advisory Second Line compliance support and effective oversight and challenge to the Line of Business.
  • Overseeing and co-ordinating the Compliance response to change in the distribution channels, including support for regulatory change, Group Compliance policy change, and key business projects.
  • Engaging in regulatory change to understand and interpret implications for the relevant business units on behalf of the team including attending external industry forums where relevant.
  • Executing the Compliance functional agenda as it relates to the portfolio, including supporting compliance plan development; assessing compliance risks; rolling out policy change; supporting regulatory change and agreeing associated action plans; supporting and developing best-in-class Second Line of defence monitoring.
  • Performing and reviewing compliance assessments of incidents and associated breach assessment and reporting; assess and advise on issue management and remediation plans and attend and present at the Regulatory Determination Forum, as required.
  • Reviewing and advising on business projects and key changes. Provide leadership and advice on regulatory based change initiatives.
  • Develop strong relationships with business partners, supporting the overall business agenda, whilst maintaining necessary functional independence.
  • Be effective and proactive in spotting and identifying and shaping issues including in governance forums such as Risk Committees, Steering Committees and management meetings.
  • Work closely within the Consumer & Business Baking Compliance Leadership team to develop proactive ideas and ensure consistency of approach with other business units.
  • Support regulator communications and interactions, primarily with including APRA, ASIC and OAIC, as required.

What do I need?

The ideal candidate will have 12+ years financial services industry, with a broad understanding of the General Insurance and Compliance environment with experience in managing compliance risks in a large financial services business. Professional qualifications are preferred and tertiary qualifications in a business-related discipline are desirable.

A strong understanding of Prudential Requirements relating to General Insurance, including GPS series Prudential Standards, CPS series, Insurance Act, Insurance Contracts Act and of relevant laws and regulations underpinning the Insurance business, including the Corporations Act and have an understanding Insurance Act, Insurance Contracts Act, RG146, RG104, RG105, RG165, Privacy laws and Conflicts of Interest.

You will have demonstrated experience in developing strong stakeholder relationships both internally and externally with an ability to influence and to be persuasive as well as be open and flexible. Be able to operate effectively in a changing environment, take on new initiatives, see opportunities with enthusiasm and positivity and possess strong prioritisation skills.
