The Illawarra Women’s Trauma Recovery Centre is looking for an Exercise Physiologist who will work closely with the Director of Therapeutic Programs, Wellbeing, and Self-determination to support clients facing chronic illness, physical injuries and or disability due to trauma.
The Exercise Physiologist will be responsible for supporting, using a trauma informed approach to provide treatment and support clients on their healing journey within the recovery framework for the Illawarra Women’s Trauma Recovery Centre.
About the Women’s Trauma Recovery Centre:
The Illawarra Women's Trauma Recovery Centre (the 'Centre') is an Australian first community-led initiative, codesigned with women with lived expertise, professional experts and service providers to offer comprehensive and long-term support to women recovering from the trauma of domestic, family and sexual violence. Strongly aligned with local, state and national priorities, including The National Plan to End Violence against Women and Children 2022-2032, the Centre will support women to heal from trauma arising to domestic, family and sexual violence, and to improve the long-term health and psychosocial outcomes for women and families.
The Centre is a project of the Illawarra Women's Health Centre. Established in 1986, we are nationally accredited and provide a safe place for women to access specialised high-quality women's medical and health care services.
We also offer various health and well-being workshops, programs, community-based group activities, and support groups. Our services evolve in response to the needs of women and girls in the region, shaped by evidence of effective practice and local, state, and national policy contexts. Our services and programs are provided at little or no cost to all women in the Illawarra.
Key Responsibilities:
- Undertake comprehensive physical assessments of clients accessing the Centre using a trauma informed approach.
- Develop individualised exercise plans considering any limitations the client may hold and modify the plan as required to accommodate any changes or challenges encountered.
- Collaborate with any other relevant providers to ensure a holistic and effective rehabilitation program.
- Provide advice, education, support, and motivation to help clients achieve outcomes.
- Provide referral to specialist or other health professional where appropriate.
- Maintain their knowledge and skills for providing services including trauma informed principles.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation respecting the confidentiality and privacy of clients.
- Other duties as reasonably directed.
Essential Criteria for the role:
- A genuine interest in, and commitment to Illawarra Women’s Trauma Recovery Centre's vision, mission, and values.
- Appropriate tertiary qualifications in Exercise Physiology, Human Movement, or similar discipline.
- Professional Accreditation with Exercise and Sports Science Australia.
- Experience working with families impacted by Domestic Family Sexual Violence.
- Experience in delivering exercise programs utilising a trauma informed approach.
- Proven track record in working collaboratively with clients and other stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes.
- Experience in undertaking a variety of physical tests and assessments.
- Commitment to confidentiality, privacy and delivering treatment without judgment.
- Clear National Police Check
Desirable Criteria for the role:
- Experience working with people from diverse communities or lived experience of diversity including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, LQBTQIA+, migrant, culturally and linguistically diverse, neurodivergent and people with a disability.
- Fluency in a community language other than English.
- Demonstrated understanding of contemporary family, domestic and sexual violence, and the trauma impacts of gendered-based violence and abuse.
- Experience working in feminist not-for-profit organisations and/or social enterprise.
- Experience advocating for and promoting gender equality and women’s rights.
