About the team

Questacon’s exhibition program brings science, technology and innovation to the Australian public through interactive and provocative experiences.

The Concepts team plays a key role in developing new exhibitions and installations at Questacon.

The responsibilities of the Concepts team include:

  • Defining the goals and narratives for exhibitions, researching topics and developing exhibit experiences
  • Collaborating with the in-house design and workshop production teams to bring exhibit ideas to life
  • Writing exhibition content, aided by subject matter experts to ensure the accuracy of information
  • Conducting audience research to ensure exhibits are appealing and engaging 
  • Planning any additional multimedia and support material for exhibitions

What you will do

Exhibition Concept Developer (APS6):

Exhibition Concept Developers play a lead role in development of each new Exhibition Concept. This includes determining the goals and objectives, narrative or angle, and interactive experiences to inform development of a Questacon exhibition. Responsibilities include:

  • Planning and coordinating topic and audience research, and stakeholder mapping to inform development of an Exhibition Concept.
  • Leading ideation of interactive and engaging exhibits and experiences for audiences of all ages.
  • Writing interpretive content for exhibit interpretation panels, screen-based multimedia, and Exhibition support materials, including developing the tone and voice of new exhibitions. 
  • Supporting and coordinating the work of Exhibit Developers and other team members, to ensure exhibition goals are realised. 

Exhibit Developer (APS5):

Exhibit Developers work closely with the Exhibition Concept Developer (APS6) to develop individual elements of an exhibition. Responsibilities include:

  • Researching and developing interactive and engaging exhibit ideas for audiences of all ages.
  • Writing interpretive content for exhibit interpretation panels, screen-based multimedia, and Exhibition support materials.
  • Participating in evaluation and audience research – including making and testing prototypes and conducting in-person interviews and surveys to inform development.

Other duties:

All roles’ responsibilities also include:

  • Coordinating and collaborating as part of an interdisciplinary team to meet project timelines.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with external stakeholders to contribute to Questacon’s new exhibitions.
  • Maintaining work records and organising their own work.
Eligibility

The successful candidate must have, or be able to obtain, an ACT Government Working With Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration.

To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, candidates must be Australian Citizens.

Positions require a Baseline security clearance and successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.

Notes

This recruitment process is being undertaken for an ongoing APS6 appointment, and future APS5 ongoing vacancies. Non-ongoing opportunities may also be offered.

This vacancy requires successful candidates to be based in Canberra, with some provisions for flexible work arrangements. Please reach out to the contact officer to discuss this further.

A merit pool may be established and used to fill future vacancies within 18 months from the date the vacancy was first advertised in the Gazette.
