Address About the role We are seeking a full-time qualified Steel Fabricator who will work alongside Opera Australia’s highly skilled team of Carpenters and Props Makers to maintain sets and props for theatrical performances. In this role you will be required to build, maintain and repair scenery and large props and in addition, maintain storage and transport equipment.The role requires dedication, focus and a strong technical skill set in order to maintain the Opera Australia standard.
Key Areas of focus Metal Fabrication
Fabrication of the scenery and large props. Registration of all scenery elements to ensure ease of assembly. Test building and dismantling of scenery items. Fabrication of transport and storage equipment. Fabrication of stock scenery hardware. Provide mock-up scenery elements for rehearsal when required. General repairs to plant and equipment. Health & Safety Taking reasonable care of your own health and safety and that of others; Ensuring that your acts or omissions do not adversely affect others; and Complying with OA SAFE and any reasonable instructions, policies and procedure given by OA, to enable OA to comply with WHS laws and maintain a safe working environment. About you You will have: Certificate III in Engineering, Fabrication trade Demonstrated ability to read and interpret workshop drawings Proficiency in MIG, TIG welding of mild steel and aluminium Proficiency with fabrication equipment such as cutting, rolling, and bending equipment Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate with internal and external stakeholders. Demonstrated problem solving skills and the ability to work well under pressure. Ability to work well both independently and within a team Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines It is preferred you have EWP licence Drivers licence Forklift licence Knowledge of the local performing arts industry and a familiarity with opera Appointment to this position is subject to the position holder having residency status and/or possessing a visa with work rights.About Opera Australia Opera Australia’s (OA) Vision is to become an opera for a 21st century Australia with a mission to bring an Australian stamp to telling great stories through music and song.
