About the role:
We are seeking a Family Lawyer to join Victoria Legal Aid working across the Loddon–Campaspe region. In this role, you will act as an advocate by providing legal services including duty lawyer services, casework and advice services primarily in family law, with opportunities to expand into other areas of law including family violence and child protection. You will also participate in community legal education and develop collaborative relationships between VLA and local stakeholders.
If you were interested in gaining regional experience in the vibrant regional city of Bendigo located in Central Victoria, 2 hours from Melbourne, 45 minutes by train from Castlemaine, this is a great opportunity for you. The varied and interesting work mix of a regional office will allow you to accelerate the development of your advocacy skills.
This role is based at our Bendigo, Loddon–Campaspe region office on Dja Dja Wurrung Country.
About you:
As our ideal candidate, you will possess:
- Demonstrated knowledge and practical experience in providing legal support, predominately in family law matters or experience in related areas and a willingness to develop in family law.
- Experience working closely with First Nations Australians and in depth understanding of cultural norms and communication styles.
- Ability to advocate for clients on complex matters related to family law, family violence and/or child protection and other related areas of law.
- A current Australian practicing certificate which entitles you to practise in Victoria as a government legal practitioner (mandatory).
