Family/Carer Peer Worker

Your new team:
Orygen Specialist Program, a program of The Royal Melbourne Hospital, pro0vides mental health services to young people aged 15-25 (soon to be 12-25) and their families/carers in Melbourne's northwest and western suburbs.
The Orygen Continuing Care Team in Sunshine and Wyndham provide access to outpatient community care by a multidisciplinary team ensureing comprehensive, collaborative and coordinated care.
Your new role:
In this role, you will offer support to families, friends and carers of young people in the Wyndam and Melton areas. In this role, you will also:
- Draw on your Lived Experience of supportinf your family memeber of significant other and offer empathetic listening, providing peer support and information.
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and provide lived experience specific values and perspective
- Have a broad understanding of the differing perspectives of the impact of mental illness health on families/carers and the community
- Provide inclusive and sensitive practice to young people and their families/carers from Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander, CALD and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds
About you:
- Personal lived experience as a family, carer ir supporter of someone who has accessed public mental health services, preferably a youth mental health service.
- Are determined to make a difference to the health outcomes for young people
- Qualifications/training in mental health are desirable but not essential.
