About the role
At Auguste the Label, designers bring our vision to life. They manage the entire design process, from concept to product, ensuring each piece is both commercially successful and innovative. Their tasks include researching trends, selecting fabrics, and maintaining our brand's identity.
Key Responsibilities
- Design Strategy: Collaborate with the Creative Director to support and implement the Design Strategy. Take ownership of assigned design categories, managing the process from initial concept through to the final product in conjunction with Product Developers.
- Trend Research & Innovation: Conduct thorough research on key looks and trends, bringing fresh, innovative ideas to the brand. Present forward-thinking concepts on colour, mood, and silhouette aligned with the Seasonal Strategy.
- Product Development: Ensure each stage of the design process is completed on time and within budget. Balance proven successful designs with new trend innovations to create commercially viable collections.
- Fabric & Supplier Management: Work closely with the Production Team on the sourcing and selection of fabrics. Understand fabric performance and capabilities, ensuring quality and suitability for each design.
- Fit Sessions & Technical Specifications: Drive fit sessions with the Design and Production Teams, making necessary adjustments to ensure perfect fit and execution. Assist Product Developers with measurements, details, and other required style information.
- Art & Print Management: Initiate and manage design ideas, brief Art Designers and Studios, and oversee print setup and artwork specifications. Ensure clear communication with suppliers to execute prints correctly.
- Market Analysis & Trend Forecasting: Maintain awareness of global retail trends and market forecasts to inform design decisions. Ensure designs align with the brand vision and meet market demands.
- Collaboration & Presentation: Participate in weekly Trade meetings and collaborate with the Merchandise Manager to maximize product performance. Present collections to the Retail team and participate in competitor shopping to benchmark pricing and options.
- Team Leadership & Development: Oversee Junior Designer, ensuring effective administration and information flow across product categories. Support the development and onboarding of new team members and promote a positive team culture.
Skills & Competencies:
Technical Skills: Proficiency in design software including Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and other relevant tools. Strong understanding of garment construction, fabric properties, and production processes.
Creative Vision: Strong trend forecasting abilities and a keen eye for style and detail. Ability to translate brand DNA into innovative and commercially successful designs.
Project Management: Excellent organizational and time management skills. Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Collaboration & Communication: Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills. Ability to build and maintain effective relationships within the team and with external partners.
Problem-Solving & Adaptability: Solution-driven mindset with the ability to handle pressure in a fast-paced environment. Creative thinker who can adapt to changing trends and market conditions.
