About the role
National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) has a unique opportunity for a Field Supervisor to work as part of the team and contribute towards the conservation of the natural environment, flora, fauna and aboriginal heritage.
Field Supervisors coordinate and supervise the field team in the delivery of field operations for NPWS. Working closely with the Team Leader Field Operations/Senior Field Supervisor the role ensures the efficient and safe undertaking of works and maintenance duties across the Area. You will also be asked to contribute to the planning, prioritisation and scheduling of works and be able to undertake administrative and record keeping duties. This is a hands-on role which will involve assisting with the construction and maintenance of visitor areas and other infrastructure, protection of Aboriginal cultural heritage sites and the operation and maintenance of plant and equipment.
About you
As a supervisor, you’ll be experienced in managing and leading a dynamic team and managing multiple projects at once. Your organisational skills and adaptability will be key to your success, coupled with your communication skills and ability to liaise with diverse stakeholders. You will work with various teams across the North Coast Branch to ensure the delivery of programs and priority projects. As such your collaborative approach and motivation to achieve outcomes will be an asset in this role.
Essential requirements
- Current Drivers / MR licence and demonstrated ability to operating 4wd vehicles and heavy plant up to 4.5 tonnes/15 tonne GVM, and ability to obtain a First Aid Certificate.
- Ability to carry out frontline firefighting duties and incident management roles, including ability to obtain and maintain certification as a crew leader or higher within the probationary period (up to 12 months),
- Certification and experience in chainsaw operations to at least cross-cut and basic tree-felling level, ability to operate two-way radio, and a willingness to fly in light aircraft.
This is a physically active role suited to candidates of all genders who are fit, enjoy working outdoors as part of a team, and are eager to learn and develop the skills and qualifications needed to contribute toward improving and maintaining NSW’s most precious natural places.
Applicants must meet the requirements of a firefighting medical which is inclusive of a clearance to undertake frontline firefighting roles. The applicant must pass the task-based fitness assessment to a moderate level within the probationary period (up to 12 months) and annually thereafter.
