ABOUT US:
Australian Veteran Health Services is a unique, multi-disciplinary medical service designed to assist former and current Defence personnel plan their transition from military to civilian life. As a medical service that was established by Veterans for Veterans, we aim to complement established medical and ex-service organisations by assisting with DVA Claims, Permanent Impairment Assessments, Veteran Review Board (VRB) reports and ADF Transition Medicals.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:
You'll be a self-starter who has the ability to design the finance infrastructure at an exciting time of growth for AVHS. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and based in Springfield, the Financial Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Finance vertical; contributing to strategic design; and implementing strategy. This role will identify and implement systems, policies and processes, which will improve financial monitoring, accountability and growth across AVHS.
ABOUT YOU:
You will be experienced in the design and implementation of fit-for-purpose financial planning and analysis, forecasting and budgeting. With strong interpersonal and communication skills you’ll be approachable and trustworthy. High level stakeholder engagement skills are a must, as we have many moving parts in the delivery of support to the veteran community. You will have continuous learning habits and a demonstrated ability in training managers to be financially literate.
Key Responsibilities
- Foster a culture that aligns to AVHS Values and Code of Conduct.
- Manage the finance department staff/contractors including (but not limited to) management of workflows, workload and ensuring that deadlines are met in accordance with the directions of the Chief Executive Officer.
- Development and execution of organisational financial strategy, forecasts and budgets.
- Analysis of organisation financials and development of fit for purpose metrics and reporting for the CEO, Board and Executive team.
- Manage month and year end financials, balance sheet reconciliations, organisational tax and statutory requirements.
- Cashflow management, including short-term forecasting, allocating funds, managing credit card facility and card issues.
- Monitor the day-to-day financial operations such as payroll, invoicing, payments and all relevant transactions.
- Management and reconciliations of petty cash, credit card and bank account systems.
- Continuous improvement of financial policy, process procedure and controls to support the effective and efficient operation of the Finance function.
- Guide and coach managers to enhance financial literacy, including collaborating to create department budgets and forecasting.
- Degree qualified in Accounting, Business or Commerce with minimum 5 years’ experience (essential)
Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated experience in managing organisational financial planning, accounting, tax and statutory requirements in a medium-sized business (essential)
- Demonstrated experience in business analysis and reporting (essential)
- Strong management skills and demonstrated capacity to successfully direct a team to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines (essential)
- Capacity to work independently with minimal direction and collaboratively in a team environment (essential)
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills with demonstrated experience in influencing multiple stakeholder groups and working collaboratively (essential)
- Strong knowledge of financial management platforms (essential)
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Suite with advanced Excel skills (essential)
- Chartered Accountant Certified Practicing Accountant (CACP) or Institute of Public Accountant (IPA) membership (desirable)
