Full Job Description:
Excellent Opportunity to work for one of the leading research centres in Australia. This Finance Manager will oversee the finances for this research centre and will also manage the finances related to this research for 7 other University partners. This will include but not be limited too monitoring income and expenditure, budgeting, forecasting and timely financial reporting and advice to the director, COO and other stakeholders as required. The position will also advise on financial matters to the centre leadership team and centre members.
The Finance Manager will initiate, develop, and implement procedures to meet requirements of a larger centre. The position will also be responsible for staying up to date with changes to financial and administrative procedures and implement them across the centre.
This role will report to Chief Operations Officer and will also lead a Finance and Administration officer.
Key responsibilities:
- Manage the Centre’s financial operations to align with funding bodies and grants. This involves monitoring budgets, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance to company policies.
- Provide timely strategic advice to the director and COO on funding and research grants, while addressing any inconsistencies.
- Provide general procedural and expert financial advice and assistance to all managers and new staff as required.
- Implement best-practise business processes and ensure compliance with university policy and procedures
- Ensure scientific program, administration and laboratory annual expense budgets are distributed in a timely manner and are regularly monitored.
- Work collaboratively with the Centre’s partner organisation to assist with financial tasks where required.
- Mentor and advise the Administrators on financial matters and reporting per the centre’s guidelines.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives by actively assessing and optimizing existing financial processes with the key objective to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Collaborate closely with the COO to identify areas for enhancement and strategically recommend solutions to streamline operations and maximise financial performance.
- Oversee the day-to-day financial operations of the centre. Including but not limited to: Managing purchase requests, accounts payable, accounts receivable, travel expenses, ledger review and credit card reconciliation.
- The primary goal for the role is to ensure compliance with the policies of various funding bodies and university expense guidelines.
- A degree with substantial extension of the theories and principals of finance or postgraduate qualifications with experience in financial management and budgeting.
- Proven experience in managing complex budgets and forecasting effectively
- Demonstrated capability in financial reporting and provision of financial advice.
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to effectively relate to people of varying levels of seniority and backgrounds.
- Demonstrated ability to monitor and manage financial compliance against policy.
- Possess leadership qualities, drive, enthusiasm, problem solving skills and initiative.
- Exceptional technical skills in financial and administration systems and reporting.
- Specifically possess a high level NSS, PeopleSoft, Concur and Calumo system knowledge (desirable)
- Advanced computer skills in generally, particularly using Microsoft Excel Software including the design and auditing of advanced spreadsheet applications.
- Demonstrated skills to analyse, develop and implement improved systems and processes.
- Demonstrated ability to provide a high-quality service to clients and other key stakeholders both internal and external.
