About the role
The role of Financial Accountant is to contribute and provide assistance, in all financial accounting functions and help ensure legislative reporting requirements are met, establishing best practice to meet reporting objectives, providing general accounting, project, and administrative assistance to the Financial Controller. This should be done within established organisational policy, contractual and legislative requirements.
As a key member of the finance team, your primary role will be responsible for the month-end completion to the Trial Balance stage. This role ensures the accuracy and completeness of the General Ledger and compliance with all month-end reporting deadlines, relevant accounting standards, tax laws, and company policies.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Month-End and Year-End Process Ownership: Prepare all journals, analysis schedules, maintain Fixed Assets and Leases register including additions, depreciation and disposals, and accounting for leases under AASB16, and coordinate the wider finance team, support the delivery of end of month reporting in line with Group timelines.
- Balance Sheet Reconciliations: Conduct thorough reconciliations to ensure financial accuracy.
- General Ledger Integrity: Ensure appropriate coding across Chart of Accounts (CoA) and departments.
- Analytical Review Support: Assist with queries related financial results as directed by the CFO and Group Financial Controller.
- Prepare monthly BAS returns.
- Process Improvement: Enhance financial operation processes to maintain an accurate and complete book of records.
- Audit Support: Assist with external audit, liaising with auditors and collating required information.
- Stakeholder Management: Resolve queries professionally and efficiently.
- Ad Hoc Assistance: Provide support to the Finance Manager and Regional Financial Officer as needed.
Skills & Experience
- Minimum 3 years of financial accounting and reporting experience within a similar role.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles (AASB).
- Intermediate Excel skills and adeptness with IT systems.
- Experience using Microsoft NAV and/or Business Central ERP highly desirable.
- Experience with finance system implementations highly desirable.
- Enquiring by nature with a strong compliance and an ability to articulate findings.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate university degree in Commerce, Business or Accounting.
- CPA or CA qualified.
- Ability to attain National Police Check, Blue Card and NDIS Worker Screening Clearance (Yellow Card) and necessary licenses.
