Fixed-Term (12 months), full-time position based between our Hobart CBD and Glenorchy offices

About us:

Anglicare Tasmania is a non-profit organisation providing a wide range of community services to the people of Tasmania. We are part of the national Anglicare Australia network of organisations. Anglicare advocates for social justice and aids people in times of need. We provide programs relating to ageing and disability, health, housing, families, drug and alcohol treatment and support and more.

About the Role:

The Financial Capability Worker, Community Services provides assistance to clients to build longer- term capability to budget and manage their money better and to make informed financial decisions. Provide financial literacy education, one-on-one budgeting support to individuals, and/or non-accredited financial literacy community education workshops. Support clients with employment readiness through improving financial knowledge, skills and capabilities to assist them to achieve employment.

The successful applicant will possess demonstrable competency, knowledge, understanding and/or skills in the following areas:

  • Basic understanding of financial issues affecting individuals and families within the Tasmanian community, and a conceptual understanding of the social and political contexts in which financial counselling services function in Tasmania;
  • Basic understanding of relevant government regulations and other statutory requirements that are applicable to financial counselling services;
  • Ability to assess a client’s financial situation, identify possible options and communicate this knowledge to clients clearly and effectively; as well as an ability to support clients to develop self-determination skills;
  • Capacity to engage and support clients across multiple service environments, including office and phone based counselling, home visits, and outreach to other community agency sites;
  • Ability to prepare and present money management information sessions to community groups;
  • Ability to network and establish effective links with both government and non-government services; and knowledge of other services and resources available within the community and the capacity to refer appropriately;
  • Capacity to exercise initiative, work independently and cooperatively with other team member and capacity to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion;
  • Ability to maintain accurate and complete client file records in accordance with good file management practice; as well as an ability to maintain and collate statistics and prepare written reports;
  • Computer knowledge and skills, with ability to operate a variety of applications including email, word processing and database management software packages;
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and an empathy with Anglicare’s mission and values.
  • Eligibility for membership of the Peak body Financial Counselling Association of Tasmania (FCAT);
  • The enrollment or willingness to complete the relevant Financial Counselling Diploma at a minimum completing the following units:
    CHCFLE301A – work with clients needing a financial literacy education;
    CHCFLE302A – educate clients in fundamental financial literacy skills, and
    CHCFLE303A – educate clients to understand debt and consumer credit.
  • Previous experience in a position related to the financial and insurance services industry would be desirable.

The successful applicant will be required to:

  • provide a current Tasmanian Working with Vulnerable People Registration (employment/volunteer category) including NDIS Worker Screening Check if you are applying for the 1st time or have renewed your registration since 1st February 2021;
  • present an unsupervised contact with children or vulnerable people type National Police Check (no older than 12 months);
  • provide an International Police Check if you have resided for 12 months or more outside of Australia after the age of 16;
  • provide a satisfactory Anglicare assessed medical:
  • provide a current provisional or full Australian Driver Licence.

On commencement the successful applicant will be required to undertake our structured Safeguarding Children Training program.
