Financial Controller

We are undergoing a period of growth and change and, as such, we are seeking to bring on a talented Financial Controller to manage the day-to-day finance function and work closely with the founders and development team to deliver successful results.

We are looking for someone who wants to grow with the business and, in time, oversee a small team.

The Role

As the first member of the finance team, the role will suit someone who is willing and able to be hands on in the delivery of technical functions required to ensure the financial and tax compliance of the business whilst also providing a clear vision on how to build the finance team. 

The ideal candidate will possess experience in creating and managing financial processes, such as cash flow forecasting, accounts payable and receivable, financial reporting, and tax compliance. Key relationships will involve close collaboration with the co-founders, development team and development partners, and external advisors. 

This role will be exposed to the development, construction and operational sides of the business. As such, the Finance Manager will be expected to act as the lead finance expertise and to engage with and provide support to both internal and external stakeholders.

Reporting to our MD, your responsibilities will include:

• Manage the end-to-end finance function of Someva, which consists of multiple project entities and a services company (currently Xero);
• Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable, including generation and tracking of bills and invoices;
• Generate payments and bank transfers including batch payments and payroll processing;
• Book-keeping and reconciliation of transactions (low volume);
• Preparation of quarter end reporting and monthly cash flow analysis;
• Manage our Excel-based cash flow forecast and project budgets;
• Work with outsourced accountants in relation to the preparation of Financial Statements, Income Tax Returns, Payroll tax, PAYG, BAS reporting, and grant applications;
• Manage and liaison with external accountants, insurance brokers, legal firms, and financial institutions;
• Establish budgets, cashflow forecasts and reporting actuals vs forecast;
• Seek to optimise finance processes with apps such as Dext, Xero, ApprovalMax, Commbiz;
• Liaise with investor-partner finance teams in relation to funding arrangements; 
• Manage external financing arrangements which may include debt and equity investors; 
• Manage company budget and work with Development Managers to understand project budgets;
• Support Company Secretarial activities such as preparing board minutes, resolutions, and basic notices; and
• Continuously improve the finance function systems and processes as the business grows and develops.

Essential Skills for this role

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business/Commerce, Finance, Accounting, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Big 4 experience preferred however all candidates encouraged to apply
• CA or CPA qualified
• Xero experience (with multiple entities ideal)
• Experience in or exposure to renewable energy industry, or interested to learn and make a difference
• Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) 
  • Excel – understanding of formulas including Index Match, Sumifs, other 
  • PowerPoint - you may be asked to assist in preparing presentations 
• Ability to meet deadlines with a can-do approach;
• Strong communication skills with the ability to engage and collaborate with a diverse range of individuals.
• Excellent communication, time-management and organizational skills;
• Accuracy and attention to detail; 
• Problem-solving mindset and the ability to make informed decisions independently; 
• Self-motivated to seek out and generate opportunities to improve business process. 

You will have daily access to the founders and team, however, you will have ultimate responsibility for finance and will need to able to work independently.
