FISHERIES OFFICER (MULTIPLE ROLES)

  • Salary: $74,580 - $82,571 (Plus Superannuation)
  • 12 months Fixed term
  • Usual hours of work: Full-time (flexibility may be available)
  • Usual work location: Tatura, Bendigo and Swan Hill
The RoleThree roles designated as female. They are responsible for delivering the full range of Fisheries strategies, programs and services in their operational area and in state-wide operations and projects as required.The Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA) delivers a fully integrated fisheries compliance program that comprises prevention (community engagement and education), enforcement operations, intelligence collation and targeted investigations. The VFA also contributes to public safety by acting as the control agency for shark hazards and supporting other agencies in the management of emergencies.The position will also provide support and authoritative advice to the Supervising Fisheries Officer.The TeamThe VFA is a statutory authority established to facilitate the effective management of Victoria's fisheries resources in a coordinated and strategic way that ensures their ongoing sustainability. The VFA functions to ensure that the Government, the recreational and commercial fishing sectors, and the Victorian community can share in and obtain the benefits from sustainable fisheries management.The VFA has around 190 employees located in the Melbourne CBD, metropolitan Melbourne and across regional Victoria.About you
  • Leadership skills including leads by example and sets the standards for high performance
  • Have operational effectiveness including conducting effective surveillance and field-based inspections (both commercial and recreational) and provides evidence in court
  • Be a team player by demonstrated ability to cooperate and work well with others in pursuit of team goals
  • Have professionalism by representing the business in a professional manner and encourages others to do the same
  • This is a designated role and Special Measures have been enacted for these positions under section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 to specifically target female applicants only. This is to address the under representation of female Fisheries Officers in the Norther Fisheries Stations.
  • Will be required to meet the VFA's water safety competency requirements, including the ability to swim 100 meters unaided
  • A current unrestricted Drivers Licence or be able to obtain one within 3 months of employment
  • This position is a designated shift worker with a requirement to frequently work out of hours work including early morning, evening, night or weekend work including occasional overnight travel. There will be a requirement to work an annually prescribed minimum number of shifts which includes weekends and public holidays. Recreation leave may be restricted during the peak summer period.
  • This position involves driving a VFA vehicle or vessel as part of daily shift activities in accordance with the Driver Safety Policy. In order to manage fatigue and be fit for the physical and mental requirements of the role, staff need to reside within a reasonable commuting distance from their office.
