The opportunity:
We have an opportunity for an experienced Fitter & Turner / Machinist to join our team on a full-time basis. In this role you will play a key role in our manufacturing operations, ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of machinery and equipment. This position requires a strong understanding of mechanical systems, precision machining, and the ability to interpret technical drawings.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Operate precision tools to fabricate components accurately, interpreting technical drawings and verifying dimensions
- Assemble mechanical components per engineering instructions, ensuring proper alignment and functionality during installation
- Ensure machinery operates smoothly through routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and preventive measures
- Support the Research & Development team in machining and assembly of prototypes
- Provide mentorship to junior staff, assisting them to develop their technical skills
Skills & Experience :
- Proven experience as a fitter / machinist or similar role in a manufacturing environment
- Proficiency in precision machining techniques and equipment operation
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
- Knowledge of safety protocols and compliance standards
- Excellent attention to detail and quality craftsmanship
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Basic welding skills
- 2 years’ experience in similar position
Desirable skills:
- Trade qualification or relevant certification
- Experience operating a laser cutter
- Experience running a metal fabrication workshop
Additional requirements:
- Ability to meet Defence Security Clearance requirements
